A lot of the time that's been because the ball wasn't placed where he could catch it in stride. When you're having to catch behind you it's unlikely you're getting much with it.

I don't think that's true. I think he has a tough time getting separation in his routes. He's dynamic with the ball in his hands.

there have been multiple quick iso's and bubble screens where he was 1-on-1 and went down..I agree about the separation part too though

I see it as a good thing that we have a senior leader, with good hands, and great open field moves that should make some plays this season.

He's probably thinking "Why did I come back?"

are you blind man? he is not ready to be a successful nfl wr. maybe he'll never be; maybe he'll turn it around this year. i'm pulling for him; he's a great young man, imo. i also think he'll be successful at whatever he does. i can see him as a businessman. yes, he was great in hs; but sec football is much tougher. hopefully he "came back" to get his degree and try to improve his wr skills enough to be in the nfl. i don't think he would have been drafted.

Shep's problem is he doesn't have the hands of a top wideout. He is super talented with the ball in his hands but I think its been tough to find ways to get him the ball in our style of offense and with the depth we have at RB.

Shep is a "slot" receiver, not a true wide out. In a 4 receiver set, he's there. Think of a much faster, much lighter, D'Lo Peterson..

Yeah, we have had bad play designs for Shep since he got here IMO. Probably has a lot to do with the QBs. Play action then a short slant to Shep out of the slot could be a nasty nasty play on 1st down for us. But, I can't remember us even trying anything like that.

Shep with the ball in his hands is just as dynamic as Harvin was for UF in college

Unfortunately this is just not true.

Shep's first couple of years he would come in for the Wildcat and everyone in the stadium knew he was going to run the ball. I just don't remember us throwing to him much out of the slot last year. I just don't think we have used him to his strengths since he has been here. Obviously Miles and company know what they are doing, we played for the National Championship last year. He is one of the few guys who we just haven't utilized IMO.

it's mindboggling why they didn't have him fake the run and throw at least one during the past 3 years.

We didn't throw the ball much last year as it was plus he missed what, 3 or 4 games? What do you consider his strengths? He has good acceleration in the open field, but he doesn't make people miss and I won't say he has bad hands but they definitely aren't good either.

He's a solid player and has represented the program well, but he isn't someone you build a gameplan around.

If he is so dynamic and great with the ball in his hands but you are having trouble getting it to him, just put him in the backfield every now and then with ware or ford. Surely he can handle a toss, pitch, handoff, shovel.

look I love the guy. Great rep for LSU. But his problem is he can't catch. He dropped something like 20% of balls targeted to him last season.

It's a good thing. It means the best players may truly play . Qb not withstanding.

Shep wouldn't have been any worse than what we put back there since 07'.

Shep has been #4 for awhile now.

I hope they find a way to get him the ball this year.

IMO RS shouldn't have been in the first group last year. He is not a premier WR. I'm happy seeing others hop in front of him, in fact, I'm even more delighted that Les is playing the best rather than a senior...
