20 Million Cap hit 20 million Bonuses

signing bonus doesn't go against the cap. brady makes around $1mil/yr but he gets the rest of his money in bonuses.

What those guys said. Bonuses can be spread out over the life of the contract.

$10M salary plus $30M signing bonus = $40M to Drew in Year 1.
$30M signing bonus = $6M cap hit each year.
Year 1 cap hit = $10M + $6M = $16M, which I think is a hair less than his franchise tag tender.
This is all based on what I've read so far on the contract's structure, but if this is true, Loomis is the frickin' man!

If Loomis was the man he would have gotten this done last year.
Looks like guaranteed money was the issue and that Loomis caved.

Not bitching, happy he signed. Just not ignoring the past is all

So this deal actually saved us $400K this year?
Posted on 7/13/12 at 1:39 pm to jacks40
So, it's a 16m hit per year in years 1-3. Does that mean it is a 26M hit per year in years 4 and 5?

why? we paid him 10 million last year, not 16, and we had the best team in the nfl. i think loomis did a fine job last year, and this year he found a way to fit it

Not every extension involves raises on years already under contract. They could have done this last year and still paid him the same amount for that season.
Regardless, good for both sides to finish this deal up, no holdout, as cap friendly as the highest paid player can be, and Drew will retire a Saint.
Loomis on the other hand will be fired once Freeh determines he was eavesdropping. /joking
