No, the Saints offered Brees new deals in multiple offseasons. BREES chose to play it out this way, not the Saints.

Drew chose to end talks during the season. It was a business decision that's about to get him $5 million more a year than if he signed 2 years ago. Yeah, HE'S a dummy I tell ya.

No shite. That's what we have been saying all week. They were not 1.? Whatever per year apart. It's the guaranteed money.

I really don't understand why they are so far apart unless Brees thinks the entire salary should be guaranteed or the saints are low balling the shite out of the guaranteed money.

It's insane that people can say he is a terrible person because he thinks he is being short changed 10mil. That's a huge number, it isn't the 1+ mill a year the media is trying to portray.

At this stage in his career, he is looking at his market value and guaranteed money only. The market value was set last year when the colts agreed to 23mil for first 3yrs with Manning.

and the colts had to gut the organization because Mr. Manning took too much of the salary cap....this is what the Saints are trying to avoid. Drew won't fair well without an O-line to keep him from getting hurt like he did in San Diego or like Manning did before getting traded.

The colts had to gut the organization bc Manning had a career ending injury and they didnt want to risk 20mill/yr on someone who "may return to his normal self".

The Colts would have been fine with a healthy Manning.

With no one surrounding him because they couldn't pay anyone of any talent due to Manning sucking up too much of the cap. The gutting or dipping i am referring to started before he left the club.

I agree, pretty fine line between market value and salary cap space, the player is always going to be on one side and the team will always be on the other. No right or wrong, two sides with two very different motives.

Also to be fair Manning actually turned down the 23mill for cap space, but this was after his surgery FWIW just prior to the start of the season.

All kidding aside. What the frick is so fricking hard about paying Drew his due. Sounding more and more like thiers a lot going on we have no clue of. Makes me wonder thiers more then just money in the way for Drew to sign. Does he want out ?

Source: ProFootballTalk.com - Michael David Smith Tennessee Titans owner Bud Adams reportedly wanted to pay Denver Broncos QB Peyton Manning $25 million per season before he elected to sign in the Mile High City.

Manning shares an agent with Drew Brees. Tom Condon likely put this out there to increase the amount that seems fair for Brees to get from the Saints in a long-term deal.

just get this done already. I'm in the camp that doesn't want to pay brees so much that it ends up hurting the organization but enough is enough meet in the middle
