GF (no pics) decided she would use it to slice/chop veggies for the lasagna I am making tonight. Just got back from the ER.

So I am having Lasagna with finger tip for dinner.

Sorry, not funny, I hope your GF is ok.

But I read the title & before I opened the thread, I thought to myself, I don't think I want one of those because I'd probably slice my finger.

I warned her several times. I showed her how to use it. She took the zucchini from me and first slice, wham! Funny now.

Somewhere, Alton Brown is shaking his head for not using the guard.

You laugh, it's true. I had to do them as I was cooking.

I told her to use it. She said she had used one at her friends house and they didn't use it.

Maybe she will start listening to me now......

Use the MF'ing guard!!!! I chopped the shite outta my finger the first day I got mine thinking I would be an iron chef and slice up some potatoes. I learned my lesson......the hard way.

It's one of the most dangerous tools in the kitchen. I cringe every time I see someone prep without using a guard.

Throw the guard away, they're garbage. Get a good quality Kevlar glove instead...sooooo much easier to use.

Working at Jubans' years ago a slicer is bought for the Hobart. All of the prep cooks from Southeast Asia are told very clearly not to put a finger into the chute while the machine is running. The sous-chef Kim Kringly puts his finger into it resulting in a 1/4 inch chopped off on his right index finger and a shitload of blood before the ER.
