LINK

I know we had heard this before as a possibility, seems to be pretty locked up now.

TP Article LINK

ETA: From the TP article "Loomis will likely oversee basketball operations, with the Hornets' general manager reporting to him."

Also Benson's right hand man Dennis Lauscha will have a role in the orginizaiton as well.

I can't see them getting rid of demps considering Loomis will only be doing this for this year, I assume.

Looks like Loomis will be Benson's proxy. As long as he's there to give final approval on moves, I'm fine. Wouldn't be too thrilled if he starts getting involved deeply in player evaluation

dont really like it. basketball is so much different than football in the financial sense.

hopefully its just Benson keeping Loomis on the payroll. A way to keep money in his pocket

Or just hang around and get a feel for how basketball is ran. I cant see him making any big decisions.

I would hope not. There's no way he even knows half as much about basketball scouting as Demps does. I think the statement that he's just keeping Loomis on a payroll sounds like what's happening here.

Unless Loomis is losing responsibilities with the Saints I seriously doubt he'll be very hands on. Demps will probably get whatever he wants if he makes a good business case for it.

Not really much of a reason not to like it. I'd have to imagine he'll stay out of demps' way. Benson trusts him so it makes sense that he'd be in there at the start of his new franchise

It doesn't really worry me that much. If Loomis actually starts to interfere with operations, that will be a problem. I just don't see it happening. Loomis is someone that Benson knows and, to some extent, trusts. He's there to keep an eye on the money and bottom line I suppose.

To some extent?

Benson seems to love Loomis like a son.

Not sure Benson completely trusts anyone. But, yeah, he trusts Loomis.

Absolute joke if Loomis is actually making any on court decisions.

If i were Demps i would quit and go back to San Antonio before I actually let Mickey frickin Loomis tell me how to run a basketball team.

If Loomis is not actually making any basketball decisions then its fine. But if Loomis is opening his mouth about what they should do at PF im out if im Demps.

Demps worked his way up the best organization in the sport. Then had Phoenix literally begging him to take their GM job, but he came here anyway.

Now he's one of the most respected young GMs in the league. There's no way he stays here to answer to Loomis when he'd have multiple teams offering him jobs. Particularly when he was already undercut by Stern. With the options he has, there's no reason for him to stay here and put up with any BS.

Loomis gets a lot more credit than he deserves for personnel moves with the Saints. He relies a lot on Payton and Rieprish, I don't think we have any reason to assume the worst and think he'll start micromanaging Demps. If he tells him no on a deal and it's not about money, it probably is a long term vs. short term deal. If Demps doesn't get an extension I would expect Loomis to tell him no at least once, a win now trade mentality usually doesn't work out well, especially when you're a rebuilding team.

Which makes it even worse, imo. Isnt actually picking any players with the Saints. Scandal after scandal, and he gets a promotion...to be Demps' boss...in a sport he's never worked in?

Demps has way more pride than that. Im sure he'd gladly go back and work under RC Buford and Popovich again and just wait for his next GM offer.

I wonder how it would go over if Demps started giving Loomis advice on the Brees contract. People would think it was crazy and Loomis would hang up the phone on him.

This is just as crazy

I get the impression that's what he'll be here. Kinda a throwback to his "bean counter" days.

Now, they just need Sean Payton as a special consultant. Yo, J Smith...cmere and I'll show ya how to REALLY take out Blake G next time.
