I thought they were pretty terrible with Navarro
I actually liked a lot of One Hot minute:
Aeroplane
My Friends
Pea
Walkabout
Tearjerker
were all good songs

He was hand picked by Houser to be his replacement. I think you need some pretty serious chops in order for that to happen.
Again, he was lucky to be picked and it was almost a convenient selection. Kudzu Kings got to a point to where they couldnt' attract 300 patrons to a bar in Oxford. I think Kudzu Kings were through and he was working at a record store when he got the call to join WP. There is also a reason he's not with them now and why he's back to playing Hal & Mals and Proud Larry's.

Hell Herring is probably a better technical guitarist than Houser.
I can agree with this but at the same time it doesn't make it the right fit.
It's only my take on it.

I don't really like the Beatles..
Best thing the Beatles ever did was let Clapton play on 1 of their songs.
Actually, I do like a lot of the Beatles catalog, but don't love it. I always thought Guitar Gently Weeps was their best work by far. It was years later I found out that George asked Clapton to play on that song. Go figure, it kinda makes sense why I always like that song.

yeah, we are the opposite on those two bands. My disdain (and reasons) for the Peppers post '88 is well documented on this board...
I agree, whatever makes you happy is good.

Oh without a doubt I wasn't by any means trying to say that Herring was a better guitarist for WSP than Mikey was
That would be straight blasphemy

Probably for the same reason no one has mentioned Duran Duran...

The Kinks have had a boat load of members (I cant even remember them all), but the two constants were the brothers Davies...
Ray & Dave
No band in the long history of RnR will ever produce a hat trick, in successive years, like...
Face to Face (1966)
Something Else by The Kinks (1967)
The Kinks Are the Village Green Preservation Society (1968)

I admitted tha I dont like GnR and their submission was merely a way to express my displeasure in Tommy's decision to join that band...

Rolling Stones say, "DAMN YOU 1970!!!"
You won't get an argument from me though.

I was really just joking, not comparing the two...

Brian Jones
Mick Taylor
Ronnie Wood
Mick Taylor is, somehow, one of the world's greatest underrated guitarists. He played great lead on the Stones' best albums. His tone was especially remarkable. Loved it.

Agreed...only exception is Duane Allman. Lots of people recognize Duane's greatness, but most people don't give him any respect. In that way Duane is grossly underated...just like Taylor.

Just speaking of bands that changed lineups..
Yes,although I liked the earlier stuff better they stayed solid.
Genesis,Gabriel/Collins were both monsters.
The Mothers/Mothers of Invention, crazy good players throughout.

I think it is remarkable that Journey has had three lead singers since Steve Perry left, and they all sound like him.
