It would be interesting if he got a gig with one of the local sports shows like Mora does for WDSU and talks X's & O's before and after games. He wouldn't technically be violating any rules as far as having contact with the team, unless of course he interviews one of his own players. He could just do film study like the guys on NFL live do for our entertainment purposes only. FOX 8 is owned by Benson now so I'm sure accommodations could be made....

The fact that he is not allowed to have zero contact with ANYONE in the NFL then my guess would be no. right?

yeah but with local, he could pretty take control of the mic for the whole show without any other talking heads butting in. Money would obviously be a lot less.

i'm obviously looking for a loophole for him to still "coach". completely far-fetched, but it would be great to see if he could actually get away with it.

plenty of commentary on this topic

PFT chimes in-

Even if the NFL tries, it will be impossible to prevent Payton and Brees or Payton and Vitt or Payton and G.M. Mickey Loomis or Payton and owner Tom Benson from talking to each other whenever they want, as long as Sean Pamphilon isn’t around to record the conversations.

I'll say it again. I'm not so sure he would be allowed to be an analyst?? since he cannot have zero contact with anyone in the NFL.

to be analyst he would definitely break this rule.

no, too complicated to explain on this board. More appropriate for the OT.

He's not contacting anyone with the NFL sitting on a set with Howie, Terry, Black Guy, and whomever making comments about teams and what not. I think it's already been said by Goodell he has no issue with that.

Wrong board dude...Everyone here seems to think goodell is going to have chips inserted in SP and Parcells and Loomis and every player and every coach. He'll know everything that goes down and we will be punished without mercy.

No way he doesn't get his thoughts to the team. Theres a million and one ways he can communicate with the team without leaving any evidence. The only way he could get caught is if someone that he uses rats on him, and even then they wouldnt really have any evidence unless the dude like wore a wire.

Sp is smart enough to not talk to random coach #45 though.

I just think he'd be setting himself up for a violation.

I read the guide lines today and they are very very strict apparently.

Payton interviewing Brees after the game: "great win Drew but you should have probably run Blue niner choctaw kill kill and made your life a whole lot easier on that last drive...in fact if that situation happens again I'd run Blue niner choctaw kill kill...just a suggestion"

Brees: "thanks coach"

Payton: "thanks for the interview Drew"
