This OP was just plain stupid. Fields got chances early in the season and was terrible. His BA was hovering around .100...he simply couldn't hit. He turned the corner and is now a regular, not hard to understand.

I don't think you need to play fantasy baseball to know that players go through slumps.

i am totally convinced there are elements within this fanbase that are not happy unless they have something to bitch about.
yep, there are a bunch of Tiger fans who would bitch if they dated OT 10's, are hung like John Holmes and have Buffet's cash (either Warren or Jimmy).

so easy to count posts and do nothing but rip the poster thanks to the people who actually responded intelligently. the rest of you learn something about the game.
A good answer is not stfu and gtfu just shows how intelligent you are

You could make a pretty good case that Mainieri is a genius for taking a guy (Fields) who by all accounts couldn't hit anything all fall, and continued to hit .125 the first half of the season, and totally turning him around at exactly the time he was needed.

The OP was dumb for many reasons.

some of the talent on his team. It took him all season to see that Chad the "Dreadlocks of Doom" could pitch. The same with Buzzy Haydel. Now that Arby Fields is really playing well, why did it take numerous injuries for him to even see the field?

PM is not as smart as you.He does not have the experience coaching like you. There was no T Ball when he was a kid.

I brought this up in the offseason. I think because of our bad OOC scheduling, it is hard to get a good read on some players and how good they actually are.

Which is why it always has taken half of a season or so for PM to get a read on some players.

Arby Fields may not even be this good; just on a hot streak. But he didn't get many ABs in OOC games. It wasn't until Sciambra got hurt & Foster struggled that he started to see more time.

Have you noticed all of the things that's "taken him too long to see" seem to happen at the perfect times? Just accept victory and stop bitching

Maybe because he's short and can't see over the railing.

Seriously, baseball is a weird arse game. Players hit streaks, hot and cold, and there's little a coach can do to predict who will be hot on any given day.

Remember, Lou Gehrig sat on the bench until an injury put him in the Yankee lineup.

great response very intelligent. You are a genius. If the question about Fields was so stupid why did the announcer or the deuce as well as Hanagriff both discuss Arby and getting a chance this late and just taking off.

funny that you say this...PM mentioned this today during the game when he spoke to the broadcasters. Said something like "sometimes the coach is just too dumb to realize who the best players are" (speaking of himself)

Pretty sure he was making a joke. Arby was given his chances in fall ball (struggled) and early on in the season (nothing special).

He's getting a third chance and making the most of it and Mainieri is rewarding him for it.

Because he can't evaluate talent as well as you. Send Alleva your CV and you'll probably have the job by the SEC Tourny

Being clutch in practice doesn't always mean they're clutch in games. For some people, their competition caters to their attributes.
