First post on the Outdoor Board.
LINK is my channel
I've done some solo kayak trips down the Catawba, Yadkin and Rocky Rivers.
I can't spin fish worth a frick so I just fly fish and do well.
If you are new to this.....REMEMBER DRY BAGS and use a camping hammock....no tents...they suck
We are going to do the PECOS river in West Texas this fall......anyone gone on it?

How do you find a place to camp? Isn't the majority of the land privately owned?
Do you just squat/trespass?
I have wanted to do something like this for a while but I always stop myself because I worry I could never find places to stop and sleep.

Don't worry about pulling over and camping next to a river on property. Most land owner who have property welcome campers as long as you leave no trash behind and put out you fire...

Squat on an island. It's safer. Bring a pistol if you are solo.
Also check TheGhostyakers on fb.

Can you say why besides the obvious? Any specific reasons to carry one?

No need for a pistol. I'd bring a machete though...

camping on an island is what i do to aviod private property.
but if you check my youtube channel, we were on private land and 300 yards away from some 'necks shooting their guns....they never knew we were there.
in the summer, its hard to see folks thru all that foliage.

just the obvious reason.
If someone or something decides to make my day go wrong...I would simply like to have a say in the matter. If you don't have one, then you don't have the option of having a say. That's all.
There are about 10 (and counting) different types of pocket sized 9mms that are easy to carry in a dry box. Mine is only 400 dollars.
We have more black bears in eastern NC than the mtns., which puzzles people. Charlotte is in the middle of the two and they are migrating back to the middle of the state from both east and west. I went to ECU in Greenville NC, where a small black bear was caught 2 miles from downtown.
In/near Charlotte, there have been 5 black bears seen in the last two years. I don't fear them from what I know, but I don't have much experience with them. Coyotes don't bother me, but, again, I don't know much about them.

What part of the Catawba did you yak down? I am from a small town near Hickory and the Catawba spills in to the lake my folks live on. I have always wanted to hike a yak in to the Linville Gorge and and ride it out in to Lake James.

Lake wylie to fishing creek res. In sc. You've got to google Landsford Canal. There's nothing quite like it. When the water is high you've got a class iii that is one mile long x 100 yds wide.
However. Look up The Ghost Yakers on fb. We will do a night launch from lake james to morganton soon. Hit us up.
Also we will do the new river in va from hwy 93 to 58. 26 miles or so. We will take three nights to do it.
