Probably because no one buys it. They figure they have a few poor souls hooked and no matter what they charge these people will still buy it.
This stuff is $5 for 5 ounces, and even though I can't really remember what A1 tastes like this is probably a better option anyway.

Every chain that serves steak in America buys a good bit.
I'd also guess that a large % of homes in America have a bottle in their fridge or pantry as well. My grandma loves the stuff w/ her steak. We have a bottle for her That's my excuse.

I always have a bottle of Pickapepper sauce in the fridge, never once have I had it with steak.
Usually I pour it over cream cheese and it it with Ritz crackers.
