If Alleva bucks the Jones hire and gets a guy like Dixon, how far will the BBQ gang go to sabotage it?

Alleva will ingratiate himself to the fanbase but how far can a coach go when everyone who can help the program is pissed because he isn't "their" coach?

This is how I feel as well.

If its not Johnny, will they continue to bitch?

It looks like they won't support anyone other than jones.

except for Shaq...all those alums speaking out are just looking for a hand out once one of their guys gets hired. Do you think any of them have actually helped the program since they've left?

None of these guys who are speaking out have given the fans a legitimate reason, other than that he played with them, to hire Johnny.

Maybe they could inform us as to why he is a good "coach."

Right now, these former players just look like they are trying to control the AD. They look silly.

because a 400 pound high school basketball coach at the shittiest school in lake charles has a huge impact on things like recruiting and fundraising.

Think bigger picture, not just Ceasar. Getting a guy like Shaq fired up about your new coach and endorsing him publically, hanging around the program, and fundraising would be huge for the basketball program.

I'd say LSU football benefits by having it's alumni hanging out in the weight room during off season. Seeing Booger McFarland running up and down the sidelines like a big kid during the football game this year was awesome. Seeing big names like that around the program and enjoying the game like that is infectious. It's a great recruiting and fundraising tool. Duke, UNC, UCLA, and big programs thrive through their alumni connections and the history they have. I would love for LSU to be able to put a Class A coach and our basketball Alumni together for the benefit of the program. I hate seeing the Alumni so adamantly and publicly cornering Alleva into a hire.

But are these guys going to actually hang out at teh PMAC? Other than a few games a year, they most likely won't be there hanging out.

There is a reason to have an AD, and that's to make sure people don't make decisions that are best for them. They make decisions because they are the best for the University.

Shaq is going to support LSU no matter who they hire IMO

Clarence needs to worry more about not getting his property foreclosed on and less about this.

I want to see a game between the alumni and the current team. Who would win? Would the current team resort to hack a Shaq late in a close game? Would Daddy Dale coach the alumni team and have them play the Freak Defense? Would it even be necessary?

I think things will be fine if they don't hire Johnny as long as its a homerun hire, which does not seem likely at this point. If its just another average coach then I say maybe it should be JJ

I'm to this point as well. A big name or hell with it, give Jones a shot. It sounds like if nothing else Jones will come in and be welcomed around the state. Maybe put butts in seats. I really want a big name though.

to hell with basketball. i really havent cared about it since randy and ronny played here. I grew up on it during the 80's and 90's but i dont have to have it anymore. the perception of black athletes has ruined the game.

there are only 5-6 college programs left (the most historic programs) in college that really consistently compete. the rest are just flashes in the pan type of success here and there.

kids play more for money and fame than they do the love of the game now. fuggit'

LSU could go another twenty years without ever uttering these words in the PMAC.

I don't see how they think threats like this are good for the program.
I can see supporting jj, but keep that shite in house.

This is beyond pathetic. I'm starting to really hate the politics of this basketball program. WE CANT AFFORD TO WORRY ABOUT CRAP LIKE THIS.

Unreal stuff here, I don't care if I've never been in the locker room and all that, but I could give a rat's arse about their little BBQ get together.

Johnny Jones is settling and we can't afford to friggen SETTLE.

I feel like if Jones comes in and doesn't do anything, the same people who really wanted him here will be the same people that are the reason he's entrenched here for a LONG time. We're lucky Johnson left....Alleva wasn't going to fire him. People think our program is a dumpster fire now, by the time Jones finishes his alma mater DeRidder High will be outdrawing the PMac.
