Everytime I read an article about a recruit that visits LSU they mention hanging out with Tyrann Mathieu as one of there favorite experiences. If he's stays for his senior year he will have a bigger impact on recruiting then any coordinator. He must be one of the coolest people on the planet. Les miles is really getting everything out of him on and off the field an it seems to really be effecting recruits whether it's a wide reciever corner back or defensive lineman! I'm jealous and wish i was a high school recruit so i could visit LSU and hang out with the honey bager.

Tyrann is a great representative for this university. He has become a household name over the past year and high school players are trying to emulate his style of play.

If I were an incoming recruit aka high school kid (16/17/18 y/o) I would be starstruck getting to hang out one on one with a Heisman finalist (not to mention Bednarik Award winner).

He is probably the most famous player LSU has ever had. Not the best and not the most decorated but the most famous. No player has ever had as much exposure as TM7 had in 2011, especially one who returns to the team.

All of his exposure wasn't good but that probably makes him more human than some recent college players that returned after a big season. Andrew Luck comes to mind but compared to TM& he seems kind of robotic (Peyton Manning II). The craziest thing he did in college was growing a beard.

TM7's suspension for allegedly doing something most kids do and have done for the last 30-40 years (see Dazed & Confused coaches contract for proof) may help kids relate to him.

Mathieu seemed sincere when he spoke about "growing up", "being humbled" by the experience and "being a student at LSU and wearing those colors every Saturday." ESPN post suspension article

I just hope he's relating his thoughts on that situation with the kids he comes into contact with.

He really seems to be one of those people who is easy to like. If he couldn't play football like he does he could probably get his own reality show with one audition. I guess he'd have to weigh his options and decide whether he wanted the world to know just how big a boss he really is.

Every now & again, there are some players that capture the imagination of elite high schoolers with their game-changing abilty, confidence, & swag, and those HS kids want to be a part of that.

Deion Sanders did it for FSU. Warren Sapp/Michael Irvin did it for Miami. Reggie Bush did it for USC. TM7's style of play has that same transcendent magnetic quality so there is no reason LSU shouldn't benefit if the other programs could/did.

Prediction: The "next Honey Badger" replaces "next Reggie Bush," "next Percy Harvin," and "Jack LB" as the "it" recruiting catchphrase of 2013-2014.

You're correct and it already is being used nationally by other schools and fans. I can't count how many posts I've seen comparing kids to TM7. They just don't understand that he is a transcendent type of kid. There's a reason there hasn't been anyone like him before. Same as Harvin. Harvin was special at UF.

Imo the greatest recruiter in LSU history is Les Miles. Saban was the answer but he didn't stay long enough and Miles has surpassed him. We are more talented now and last year than at any time in the Saban era teamwide. Les never gets the credit he deserves. Read the recruiting articles and see how many kids express huge like for Les. Saban's recruiting success is newsworthy and should be respected but how good is he? Have you seen the staffs he's had? Not exactly children of the poor we're talking about. He had what ican now be said were all star staffs and has the same at Bama. That is his doing and he should be commended for putting those staffs together but most of the recruiting at Bama is done by the assistants. Kirby Smart in particular is the stud on that staff. He owns GA. No one commited to LSU would be without Les' influence on their recruitment. It's not a knock on Saban at all or not meant to be but who's done more with less(pretty good) in recruiting, Saban or Miles? To me it's easily Miles.

I like Noel Ellis a lot, but the way he compares himself to the Mathieu doesnt make sense. He plays similar to him, but they are vastly different. Not in skills, size, or talent, but attitude.

After LSU didn't offer he took great offense and mouthed off. When Mathieu wasn't offered right off the he worked his arse off at camps and turned many heads till we offered.

Prospects at DB need to take note. It takes more than talent to be the next Honey Badger. You need to have the drive to continue pushing for your goal. Unless Ellis comes to camp the comparison ends at their size and position.
