Just thought it'd be good to start a preview thread (Josh Fenderman's idea) for Season 2 with videos, casting info, and etc. Only thing I ask is to try your best to avoid book spoilers and stick with what the show has shown up to this point (AGoT) so that folks who haven't read can participate.

Game of Thrones Season 2 Premiere, April 1st at 9:00 pm on HBO. "The North Remembers"

"Game of Thrones/Win or Die" Season 2 Preview, March 25th at 8:30 pm on HBO

Plot Overview for Season 2 ( from Game of Thrones Wiki):

quote:

Season 2 spans several months on a world where the seasons last for years at a time. The Seven Kingdoms are at war, with the King in the North, Robb Stark, fighting to win independence for his people. Robb decides that he must win the allegiance of the fiercely independent ironborn to his cause, and sends his best friend Theon Greyjoy to treat with his father, who is hatching plans of his own. Meanwhile, Joffrey Baratheon holds the Iron Throne with the backing of the powerful House Lannister, but his uncle Renly has also claimed the throne with the support of House Tyrell, whose armies are much larger. As they struggle for the throne, Tyrion Lannister arrives in King's Landing to take matters in hand, only to face opposition from his scheming sister, Cersei, now the Queen Regent.

However, there is another faction entering the picture. Stannis Baratheon, Robert's younger brother and Renly's older, has also claimed the Iron Throne. A proven battle commander and veteran of several wars, Stannis is known to be utterly without mercy to his enemies and will do what is right even if it destroys him. Advising him is Melisandre, an enigmatic priestess from the east, who believes Stannis is meant for a greater destiny, and Ser Davos Seaworth, an honest and honorable man uneasy with the shifts in power at Stannis' court.

Far to the east, Daenerys Targaryen has hatched the only three dragons in the world. Eventually they will grow into terrifying monsters capable of destroying cities at her command, but for now they are still hatchlings and vulnerable. With her khalasar gone, Daenerys and her small band of followers must find a way across a forbidding wasteland and find new allies to support her claim to the Iron Throne.

In the distant north, the Night's Watch has mounted an expedition beyond the Wall, searching for missing rangers and investigating rumours of wildlings gathering in the mountains. For Jon Snow this will be a rite of passage as he is asked to make difficult choices, for the realm and for himself.

Some important notes on what books are to be involved in Season 2's plot:

quote:

Season 2 is closely based on A Clash of Kings, the second novel in the Song of Ice and Fire novel series by George R.R. Martin. Some characters and elements from the first novel, A Game of Thrones, have been held back for the second season and some other elements were brought forward into the first for production reasons. In addition, some storylines and events that happened off-page in the book will be depicted on-screen for the series, and some elements from the third novel, A Storm of Swords, will be brought forward into the second season, in particular to give the character of Jaime Lannister more screen-time.

Just finished A Clash of Kings last night. Enjoyed it just as much as GoT.

Should be good. I'll be interested to see how HBO handles some of the scenes that will require big budgets this season.

They actually handled some of the bigger scenes last season pretty well to save money. I don't think they'll be able to maneuver around it this season.

I think the budget is much much bigger this season. I'm getting ready to post the production videos from the different locations which include but are not exclusive to Croatia, Iceland, Ireland, and etc.

FTR, when I saw here actual photo I was a little concerned that she wouldn't be "Brienne" enough (for lack of a better word, ugly). But that still damn near nails what I imagined her as. The casting for this show is ridiculous.

(No Book Spoilers Please)

An almost impossible task for those of us who've read the book. So I'll keep quiet.

Only thing I can say, based on the photos is for some reason I always pictured Davos as more of a Mediterranean type - Greek or Italian maybe - and that picture does not match the image I had of him in my mind's eye.

Oh no, please post. I just meant big, spoilery type "WAIT UNTIL (insert event in a later book/no way it's include this season) HAPPENS" stuff. I think we all do a pretty decent job of policing ourselves and each other so you should be safe.

I imagined him younger, thinner maybe? Of course the series has aged previous characters vs. what they are in the books so I'm not exactly against it. Like you, he wasn't exactly what I had pictured.

Then again neither was Sean Bean.

Brienne is perfect.

I agree with Davos, I pictured him a little rougher.

It makes sense they'd increase the budget due to the popularity. I hope it was enough though. They'll need quite a bit of CGI this season IMO.

I had the same concerns about Brienna not being ugly enough, but they did a good job with her it would seem.

I really wanted to reread CoK before the show starts, but I have absolutely no time with school.

Thanks

If anyone sees anything I've missed feel free to add to the thread as well. I'd have no problem adding info if need be to the posts above.

I was wondering how they were going to handle his character.

Davos looks kinda like I had imagined him. He has two kids around their early 20s in COK timeline, so his age is about right.

Stannis is the only one of the new castings for season two that looks way different than I had imagined. He is way skinny compared to what I pictured reading the books.
