The wife and I are going to Commander's Palace for lunch and Emeril's for dinner on Thursday. We have never been to either place and are really excited about it.

I'm thinking about getting the Traditional Three Course Creole Luncheon at Commander's.

At Emeril's I'm thinking I'll start with Escargots-Yukon Gold Potato Fondue, followed by the Andouille Crusted Drum and ending with the Vanilla Bean Crème Brûlée.

Any and all suggestions will be appreciated and I'll be sure to post a review with pics when we get home next week. TIA

We only get to spend a few days in NOLA a year and try to make the most of it.

For Commander's, have at least one person get some sort of gumbo. And for dessert, have one person get something besides the bread pudding - they have plenty of great ones.

followed by the Andouille Crusted Drum
I ate there a few years ago and they used redfish for this dish. Are they using drum now?

Btw, the Andouille Crusted Redfish was superb.

Got the Banana Cream Pie for dessert. Highly recommended.

Commander's lunch menu changes though there are some staples on it. I suggest entertaining the specials as possible choices before deciding. I usually get the shrimp and tasso henican for an app because I really like it. Sometimes, I order it in entree size. If the short ribs are on the menu, they're very good.

Soups 1-1-1 are very good. Includes gumbo, turtle and the soup of the day.

I had the praline parfait the last time I was there, I believe. It was very good. One of you should try the famous bread pudding souffle, so you can both taste it. I believe you have to order that one early as it takes some time to bake.

The andouille crusted redfish/drum is very good at Emeril's. I order that quite often. I haven't had the escargot. I have an addiction to the andouille, boudin and greens app. I also enjoy the bbq shrimp app and the angel hair with smoked mushrooms and tasso app. I've made both of those quite a few times at home. I first had the angel hair dish at Commander's.

If either of you likes banana cream pie at all, one of you should order it for dessert. It's outstanding and I'm not a banana pie lover.

Have a great day of dining!

Too much food in one day. Do them on separate days.

Yes I would prefer to eat dinner on different days at these restaurants, but we are only going to be in NOLA Thursday. Our reservations are at 1130 for lunch and 830 for dinner, hoping by dinner we will be hungry enough to thoroughly enjoy the meal. Thanks for all the suggestions and reviews so far, they have all been very helpful.

Many people do two restaurants a day when they come to visit New Orleans. They just space them out well and don't eat for weeks when they get home. Seriously, people visiting New Orleans for a short time for the purpose of eating out do that to get in as many restaurants as they can when they're here. I've planned a number of restaurant trips for people and none of them have complained about to much food in a day, but they eat light for a while when they get home after a very satisfying visit.

Call back to Commander's and ask for a table in the Garden Room overlooking the courtyard. Enjoy your trip.
