Got a buddy who's getting married soon. Asked me to look into places where we could get a big cabin and spend a weekend camping for his bach party(i know staying in a cabin isn't camping). He was looking for a place that had things to do like rafting and/or cool scenery, on a lake maybe? Possibly not more than a state or two away from LA. I'm clueless when it comes to places like this, I like to hunt and fish but rarely go out camping anymore.

Go get a houseboat on Lake Ouachita. You will not be disappointed.

Night fishing at Toledo bend on a Party barge.
Drink all night, eat pizza and fish only if you want to.
Loud music and someone to clean up when you're done.
Where we stayed we had a great time.
Guy even has a house to stay in.

Problem with places like Toledo bend and Sam Rayburn have water issues right now so water access and activities can be limited. Have you looked into places along the Frio river.
