Basketball: LSU (11-6, 1-2) vs Auburn (11-6, 1-2) | TODAY 6PM | PMAC | TV:ESPNU
SoS’s Power Rankings 1/15/12
1. Kentucky
2. Vanderbilt
3. Florida
4. Alabama
5. Miss St
6. Arkansas
7. LSU
8. Tennessee
9. Ole Miss
10. Auburn
11. South Carolina
12. Georgia
General Overview
Auburn comes to town in a game vs two 1-2 teams. Though the records are the same, the teams are not quite at the same level. LSU has superior talent and should be able to break even through their first 4 SEC games. Auburn doesn’t have a great defense or a great offense, they just play mediocre on both ends. They are more experienced than most of the teams LSU has played. They start 1 sophomore, 3 juniors, and a senior. They only play 1 freshman and he has had only limited minutes. They have 3 of player’s shooting 37% behind the arc. Sullivan, has already hit 33 three’s so LSU needs to cover him up outside. Still, only 23% of their points come from 3 pointers so covering them down low will be important.
Schedule and SEC stakes
Auburn is coming off a big double OT win against Ole Miss at home. While both teams are 1-2 LSU is looking to be a contender and Auburn has a ton of problems with their lineup. This is a must win for LSU. If LSU is gonna win 10 games this season this one is a must. Sitting at 2-2 through 4 is exactly what I expected and though I would have liked to pull one of the two on our most recent road trip, we still have time to win some games away from the PMAC. The end of our schedule really drops off so as long as we can go into the end of our schedule 5-5, a 10-6 record is very achieveable.
PG Matchup
#1 Anthony Hickey 5’10” 172 Freshman
Vs.
#1 Varez Ward 6’2” 208 Sophomore
2 Guard Matchup
#10 Andre Stringer 5’9” 170 Sophomore
Vs.
#23 Frankie Sullivan 6’1” 206 Junior
3 Guard Matchup
#22 Ralston Turner 6’6” 193 Sophomore
Vs.
#3 Chris Denson 6’2” 172 Sophomore
Forward Matchup
#24 Storm Warren 6’7” 230 Senior
Vs.
#22 Kenny Gabriel 6’8” 209 Senior
Center Matchup
#41 Justin Hamilton 7’0” 260 Junior
Vs.
#41 Rob Chubb 6’10” 242 Junior
Stats:
The lineups look very similar. Junior bigs who are tall and white, big bodied 4’s who are seniors, and small quick guards. They don’t rebound as well as LSU and that should play a major role in a victory for either team. Look for LSU to out-rebound Auburn by 10+ and pull out a victory by the same margin.
Prediction:
LSU 69 Auburn 55

if it's on ESPNU does that mean you can watch it on ESPN3.com? or does it have to be specifically on ESPN3.com?

This is the must-win game of all must-win games. After this game, winning two of the next seven would be a Herculean task.

Attendance at the PMAC is pretty terrible tonight.

good win.
even when they fell behind they didn't give up. they are playing some really good defense.
