Just had backstraps my wife fried in the iron skillet with baked tater and salad. You would never think it was deer meat...damn that was good. She liked it so good she told me to go back to the woods. Good luck and carry on.

If you don't do most of the cooking at your house in cast iron..you are missing out...

Pan fried without batter? Or dredged in flour?

used to love it that way... Second best to deep fried... The whole cream cheese, jalapeño, wrapped in bacon is good but I think it's a waste of tenderloin IMO

Fried backstrap is ridiculously good. One of the only fried foods I haven't cut out.

My Mom cooked a fresh deer roast for New Year's Day and it was possibly the best deer roast I've ever had. She cooked it really good and then sliced it and cooked it some more. UMMMMMMMMMMM.

I could put enough cream cheese bacon and peppers on a piece of old dog shite and make it taste decent. When I eat deer I want to taste deer

I'm cranky cuz I need to be hunting and I'm not.

No, no you could not

I love deer meat with the whole cream cheese, jalapeno and bacon thing. Sure it is good without it but most folks want to change things up a little bit sometimes.

FWIW my grilled backstrap> fried

I've never tried it fried. They're just too good grilled. We cut ours up like steaks, tenderize it slightly with a mallet, marinade, and grill. Probably my favorite food in the world.

I like to slice backstrap about 1/4" thick. Melt some butter and get skillet hot, one minute per side. Take deer meat out and cook down some onions with salt and pepper.
