I think this thread should be changed and dedicated to Home Alone 1 and later on we can start the Sequel thread

The problem with Home Alone 2 is it is not remotely feasible. I'm going to talk significantly less about that film compared to the original. Granted its still fun to make fun of the entire horrible family that Kevin has to endure and how they learned nothing from their previous debacle.

Jimmy probably went on to raise a perfect family and get a well paying job.

Nah. Jimmy parlayed a successful high school football career into a local life insurance salesmen gig.

Close...but not in my mind. Jimmy couldn't catch Kevin, so he gets fired. His dad, who is still pissed about his wife leaving him to go to New York and be with the doves (you got it, the lady from HA2) is ultimately a drunk now. Jimmy tells his dad about his firing, his dad takes out his anger on Jimmy for being slow when he is supposed to be the captain of the football team, Jimmy then is not able to play football that year, he gets passed over in recruiting, never made it to college, and guess what...he went on to be a mopboy at the other, newer grocery store in his hometown. This new store lead to the other closing it's doors, selling for cheap, being bought by Jimmy, and having a photo of Kevin put up by the register so that workers would call the police should he re-enter the store.

Another thing that always bugged me was that Kevin not only gets in trouble in both movies for forgetting one tidbit (not cleaning Buzz's room even after he practically remodeled the whole damn house and then running up a room service bill), but he never responded to anyone's fury with an explanation of the fun, adventurous hell he had gone through. If I had been left at home to fend off two burglars and then gotten in trouble for messing up a room...I might've let the stories slide so that my mom didn't have a heart attack or slip into a guilty depression. But, if it happened again! Heck no. I'd have called newspapers, Larry King, Oprah, and finally...OCS.

Yeah, thats not fricked up at all. Seriously what the hell were all these people thinking

To be fair, it is New York City, which had the reputation long after the movie that most people that lived there were a-holes.

Correct me if I'm wrong, but I also think HA2 was made before NYC got cleaned up by Giuliani or whoever. I remember taking a trip up there with my parents after the movie came out and seeing strip clubs on almost every corner. And this was near Times Square.

no need to 'bump' it...thats what noobs do.

Home Alone - I thought it was brilliant...John Hughes knows that deep down inside every kid had dreams of being left alone and then battle 'bad guys'.

Few things that didnt sit right with me.
-Did he ever get to eat his Mac and cheese??
-None of the family members, not only didn't look alike but they didn't even remotely resemble each other. Except for Kevin and Fuller...but that doesn't count.
-he would have never made it out the front door on that sled at that angle. Wouldve, smashed right into the coat closet.
-whatever happened to crunch tators, I used to love them.

Kevin's mom had to be on some sort of drug. You know she does all the laundry, yet when kevin brings up fuller pissin the bed from drinkin pop, she doesn't bat an eye. Back in the day if my mom had even a suspicion that some little cousin of mine was gonna piss the bed in her house (one thats over 8 years old) she was takin care of business.

Keven's parents really did hate him. How on earth could she let her son sleep with a bed pisser? It's insane!

What was up with the entire McCallister child clan all sleeping in one room in the Plaza Hotel suite? Couldn't Tim Curry had given them multiple rooms that didn't have to be suites?

Also pretty f'ed up that in that room, Fuller got the king bed all to himself due to his soda drinking/bed wetting issues. I'd make the prick sleep on the floor and post up 3-4 of the McCallister kids in the bed.

a recent wtf moment is when Kevin's mom gets Mommy Dearest on him and mind fricks him about him sleeping in the attic alone.

She's all dead eyed and everything. Mom means business

oh, and
the house is for sale, yours for 2.4 million

re: Let's Overanalyze "Home Alone" and "Home Alone 2"

So I caught a bit of HA2 yesterday, and several things struck a nerve with me. And yes, I know HA2 is FAR more unbelievable than HA1, but both are still solid (the first is awesome), and worthy of criticism. I'll save the typical "Marv gets smoked in the face with brick after brick from 3+ stories high and shakes it off instead of getting his skull crushed and dying a horrible, bloody death" for later.

How the frick can Kevin think it's a good idea to wander around Central Park by himself? Especially at night. Not only that, but you find yourself in CP just chilling, and some crazy bird lady is stalking you, and you think it's a good idea to just shoot the shite with her? And on top of that, you think it's an even better idea to let her take you to a hidden place alone? Come on, Kev, you're smarter than that, dude...

Another thing I noticed was once the McAllister family gets to NYC, the mom goes to the hotel and has the fricking nerve to tell the lady at the front desk "Because of you, my son is lost and alone in NYC." Um, no, you fricking cunt...your son is lost because you are a horrible mother and lost him at the airport. Not to mention that this is the second time this has happened in a year. And you have the nerve to try to pass the blame onto someone else? frick you and your disrespectful bull shite.

And then, at the end of the movie, everybody wakes up and sees all the presents and is happy and all that. Then Kevin, without so much as as second thought, sneaks off to go to Central fricking Park alone AGAIN. And not only does he leave his parents intentionally, none of the adults (or 37 kids) notices that he is gone either. So you all are so worried that Kevin is alone in NYC, and you are all so relieved that he is alive and okay, yet the next fricking morning, you pay so little attention that you let him run off alone again? And then not even notice when he's gone...again? Get the frick out of here, McAllister family. You are all terrible people.

And don't get me started on Kevin actually hearing his dad scream about the $967 room service bill all the way in the park. Or the fact that after hearing that, Kevin again chooses to run away. Deeper into Central Park. By himself. Again.

And frick it...the brick scene. From this pic, we see that there are ten stairs at the front of the townhouse:

At 7 inches per step (per my measurements here at work), that's 70 inches of steps. At different times, the townhouse is shown to be 3 or 4 stories high. This is the best pic I could find:

If we assume ten feet per floor (so bottom of the door to middle of the brick between the above windows), that would be roughly 30 feet from the front door base to the roof. Add on another couple of feet for the roof barrier, plus Kevin's arm being about two feet above the roof balcony level, as shown below:

...plus the 70 inches (round that to 6 feet), that's right around 40 feet high that he is tossing bricks from. After watching the brick scene, it takes right at 1.4 seconds for the brick to go from Kevin's hand to Marv's face (when he is standing). It also takes 1.6 seconds to reach his face when he's lying on the ground, so I'll ignore the movie mistake of it taking 3 seconds the first and last throws (since that isn't likely and was multiple camera angles) and use 1.5 seconds for the time. And for simplicity's sake, I'll just keep the 40 feet measurement the same.

Using the standard distance = rate x time formula, with d = 40ft, r = ?, t = 1.5 seconds. That yields 26.6666 ("repeating, of course") feet per second. Per google's calculator, that equals just over 18 mph.

So, not even taking the whole "gravity/acceleration" thing into account (which would speed it up, and also considering Kevin is throwing the bricks and they are not just freefalling), the best-case for Marv is that he gets hit in the face with FOUR bricks (estimated at about 6 pounds each) going over 18 mph. Yet isn't even bleeding. That is some serious bull shite.

And this is just me thinking about the movie...I'm sure if I actually watched it and took notes, I'd have a lot more to criticize. But I'll just wait for OML's review and then respond and go from there.
