Watch your muzzle at all times

I was sitting on the stand this weekend with my good ol Mauser 96 waiting on the big boy. At one point when I was movin my rifle around, the palm of my hand hit the safety and the gun went off. Come to find out, the trigger assembly was loose and pushing down on the safety moves the entire assembly down and lets the hammer fly.
Moral of the story is DON'T POINT YOUR DAMN GUN AT ANYTHING YOU DON'T WANT TO KILL. Luckily mine went off into the woods instead of into somebody's head, but you never know when it might go bang. I have friends who are careless with guns and I'm sure somebody on here is as well. Pay attention at all times and be safe.

Preach on brotha
:kige:
That's pretty fricken crazy though. And nothing bothers me more than someone swinging a gun around carelessly

Wow, man. You had someone watching out for you. That could have been much worse.

Gun safety is easy and there is no excuse to be careless. I hate when I see people waving a gun all over and are clueless about it. Freaks me out
ETA: don't want to sound like I'm bitching at you, glad you're alright and agreeing with you

Damn, that sucks. Scared the shite out of you?

the rest of the story- Then he climbed out of his stand and left his drawers and their new contents in the woods!
I had that happen while taking someone turkey hunting one time. He was practicing aiming at my decoy and didnt realize his safety wasnt on. Poor decoy.

That could have been bad. Glad it happened when it did I guess.

Id like to know what my face looked like when that damn cannon went off in my lap.

wow dude, glad you're ok. We could've been reading about you in the paper instead of those boys in Vermont.

I have a habit of checking my safety every 5 minutes or so. Just a habit now. When I am rabbit hunting, I am more obsessed with it and check about every minute. I also yell out for everyone to check safety when rabbit hunting together in close quarters. It's a little OCD, but oh well!

Me too. I usually keep constant pressure on the saftey in the off position because I'm worried it'll get bumped off. I've had that happen before with no accidental discharge, but it scared me enough.

I constantly check the safety on whatever gun I have out of habit. Never thought I'd be the one slinging stray bullets. Check your rifles!
Eta: Its scarey how easy it is to set my rifle off with the safety. I will check my rifle before I load it every single time now. Never noticed because I never checked it.

Damn Nordic guns.

I'm gonna get a new trigger for it and put a hammer block safety on it so this can't happen again. I'm buying rifles with 3 position safeties from now on. frick that shite.

Should've hung on to the mini-06.
