I started this topic last night and was hoping to get more input, but like most threads it was lost in the excitement.

Was anyone else frustrated with TR coming out of the backfield multiple times uncovered? Most of the're passing game came from screens last night, and it was sickening seeing us just allow a receiver to run free out of the backfield several times. I would have expected chavis to make an adjustment and put someone on him. I felt like that was our only weakness other than our offense but give credit to Bama's defense for smothering us, they're damn good.

And before anyone says it, I'm not complaining about a win. I'm only pointing out a mistake that occurred multiple times without correction

they were just combo routes with the RB having his own route. our D doesn't really account for RBs, and bama's scheme took advantage of that

I guess not screens but I hated seeing the rb coming out of the backfield usually with noone on him

Our linebackers frustrate me at times.

I don't think that's all that accurate. I doubt Chavis' philosophy is to "not account for the RBs." It was just blown coverage. The LB responsible for TR on those plays screwed up.

Bama exploited the one area we suck on defense: LB.

I was more pissed at why we don't slip a back out on our O vs. not covering Trent...fwiw

The scheme is designed for the short swing passes in the flats to be open. The problem was TR caused missed tackles when he had opportunities.

TR ran for 25 yards on both of those plays before he made anyone miss. I agree the scheme can allow for the swing pass to be completed, but it doesn't allow for the RB to run for 20 YAC before the first defender can get there.

I kinda thought the defensive strategy was to sell out to stop the run, figuring Bama would have some success in the short passing game but knowing that 1) they wouldn't do it a whole lot and 2) they would make some mistakes - drops, bad passes, stepping out of bounds before establishing control, et cet. Thus the damage from that could be contained. Whereas if we let Richardson run they would have pounded that all night to our detriment.

Just my thoughts though.
