$1200.00
Screw that!
is it because it is ceramic lined or something?
You can get them for less than that. And yes, I'd say the price is a combination of the BGE brand name and the fact it is all ceramic. They are worth it, my old man makes the best filet I've ever had the pleasure of eating on ours.

I have a friend making a large order of XL Primo Grills, he isn't making any money, just extra numbers bought will bring the price down.
FYI- The price is more than what you want to spend, but a great price compared to retail.
If you want more info let me know...

If you are looking for simple, effective and cheap, go with a Masterbuilt Propane smoker. I got it at Lowe's for $160. I can easily fit to turkeys in the thing. You get the temp right and it will stay at that temp for days. A week doesn't go by that I don't use the thing.

Slow cooked meat is what I'm looking for.
STUMPS
These are kind of what mine is made to duplicate.
Mine held 225 for 21 hours on 6 pounds of hickory and 10 pounds of lump this weekend.
Mine is a reverse flow that has 4 20x20 racks. I think it is too big for most of what I need it for.

The BGE is a great all around grill/smoker.
However it does not do as good a job as the WSM with just smoking.
If you dont have something to grill will and want to smoke too the the ceramic cookers are worth the investment. If you have something to grill on and just want to smoke with I would choose the WSM.

thanks for the offer.
I do think I won't be spending anything near $1000 for any cooking utensil though.
I just don't cook meat that much.

I'm about to get the 22.5 WSM. Heard great things.
I have read that you can also use them as a grill? Anyone ever done it with theirs? I've got 2 other regular grills and would like to downsize a little.

Yes, you can use them as a grill by putting a cooking grate directly over the charcoal and removing the middle section, but it seems like a PITA. I have a 22.5 inch kettle for my grilling needs and I also do a good bit of smoking on the kettle. I love my WSM, but use my kettle 95% of the time.

I vote for the Masterbuilt electric too. I absolutely love mine. Digital temp and timer. Under $200. Awesome. ![](https://images.tigerdroppings.com/Images/Icons/Iconcheers.gif)

I have have an Old Smokey electric and it is great. I use it all the time and have for 15 plus years and have never been disappointed. Ribs, butts, yardbirds, turkey, briskets all come out great. Just plug it in and leave it alone. under $80 bucks. I love not having to check it the whole cooking time. Thanksgivings I have plugged it in at midnight and served right off of the smoker at lunch. Can't beat it.

+3 on the Masterbuilt electric smoker. I have the 40" and just did 50lbs of sausage at once.
Have cooked all kinds of stuff in it and it's great. Its completely easy to use, don't need specially made biscuits, just plug it in, fill the water bowl, and add chips as needed.
It's about as close to a crock pot as you can get, which is what you said you were looking for.
Laslty go to the smoking meats forum TONS of info on any kind of smoker you want.

OP, I need a few more specifics to help you answer your question. From personal experience and several pits the better you know what you want and why you want it, the better a choice you will make. A good start follows.
Price Range?
Cold smoking or Hot smoking?
Just BBQ or BBQ and Grill
Charcoal/wood or gas/wood chips?
Whole log?
Set/Forget or more tending/better Q?
#People cooking for?
Trailer mounted or backyard?
Also, pls let me know if you would like info on additional reading or newsgroups.
