You play the guy coming back next year. Why in the hell would you not play the QB who will be the starter next year? Going into next year, Mett would have more experience versus anyone returning.

what if next year we have a guy who has 3 years of eligibility left and will execute the same as mett? shouldn't you start him.

You might not realize it but there's a very remote possibility that we could win a NC this year.

Next year will still be there. At least most of it will.
