To land anywhere on this list is an honor for these kids. Haven't seen the 2014 list yet

re: Louisiana top 2013 prospects

Class of '14 Top 11 Louisiana Prospects

--------------------------------------------------------------------------------

1) Leonard Fournette - RB - St. Augustine - Fournette is among the best running backs in the nation, regardless of classification. Virtually every major program in the country has either offered or plans to offer. The vast majority of pundits believe Fournette to be an LSU lock, thanks to the connections the Purple Knights have with Baton Rouge. LSU ace recruiter Frank Wilson is a St. Augustine grad, and he's landed the Purple Knights that he's gone after: Tyrann Mathieu, Trai Turner and Jonah Austin. It certainly doesn't hurt that the Tigers were the first to offer Fournette (6-1, 220). Last year, he ran for 238 yards in the season-opener vs. West Jefferson. Fournette finished the season with close to 1,800 yards for St. Aug, which drops down from Class 5A to 4A in 2011. He has brawn and speed, having placed first in the 200 meters and third in the 100 in the Catholic League district track meet. A few interesting matchups this fall for Fournette & St. Aug: Brother Martin & DE Julien Obioha (week two), Hahnville & DB Jerquinick Sandolph (LSU commit) (week four), Archbishop Shaw & DE Ryan Brown (South Florida commit) (week five) and East Jefferson & DB Derrick Raymond (LSU commit) (week nine).

2) Trey Quinn - WR - Barbe - When do you see a freshman receiver expose senior defensive backs at the 5A level? Not too often, but that's what Quinn accomplished last year. During the regular season, Quinn caught 42 passes for 966 yards (23 yards per catch) with 8 touchdowns. He was named to the MaxPreps U.S. Air Force Freshman All-American Team (only two other WRs made the first-team). Quinn regularly blew past various coverage schemes with his 4.5 speed. He's already a true home-run threat, which brings us to his baseball exploits. Quinn played for South Lake Charles in the 2008 Little League World Series. During the tourney, he tossed a no-hitter vs. Jeffersonville, Indiana. As a frosh, he starred for Barbe, which is a prominent baseball power. His teammate, TE Desean Smith, is our No. 4 ranked '13 prospect in Louisiana. Quinn made the Honorable-Mention All-State squad last year. He and the Bucs tangle with Evangel Christian on the road in early non-district play.

3) Gerald Willis - DL - Edna Karr - Collected 10 sacks for last year's 4A state runner-up. Willis, whose older brother is blue-chip safety Landon Collins (Dutchtown), teams up with seniors Leonard Washington and Darrian Dyson on the state's best defensive line. They'll be put to the test on Labor Day vs. Texas 5A program Arlington Bowie, which features QB Kolby Listenbee (TCU commit) and RB Russell Hansbrough (multiple BCS offers). Already 6-3, 260-265 pounds.

4) Elijah McGuire - ATH - Vandebilt Catholic - Dual-sport star favors hoops more than the gridiron at the moment, but he plans to play college football. As an eighth grader, was already the Terriers' best varsity basketball player. 5-10, 175. Played both quarterback and running back last year for the Houma-based Class 4A school. Ran for 92 yards and two touchdowns in the final game of the season (playoff loss to Bastrop). Brilliant ability to make sharp cuts when he has the football in his hands. VCHS has an intriguing non-district matchup in week three vs. St. Charles Catholic (RB Lazedrick Thompson, DB Jeffrey Hall, DE/LB La'Jaylin Smith). McGuire says he favors LSU, Duke, Kentucky, Syracuse, Georgetown and Alabama.

5) Blake Roussel - LB - Lutcher - Earned All-District honors last year. Also a headhunter on special teams. Displays savage tackling ability on film - stops ball carriers in their path at the point of contact. 6-1, 205. He grew up facing talented teammates in practice (Jarvis Landry, Daniel Taylor, Dorian Semien). Plays alongside underrated safety Kyron Jackson and corner Jordan Batiste (Ole Miss commit). Makes tackles from sideline-to-sideline. Very aggressive, hard-nosed inside linebacker. Throwback, Dick Butkus-type.

6) Donovan Isom - QB - Destrehan - Young signal-caller has terrific size (already in the 6-3 to 6-4 range) and the luxury of throwing to WR Rickey Jefferson (the No. 1 ranked '13 prospect in Louisiana). Last year, Isom completed a 90-yard touchdown pass in the Wildcats' come-from-behind 27-20 win over East Ascension. Destrehan will undertake a challenging 2011 slate that includes Edna Karr (CB Noel Ellis), Dutchtown (S Landon Collins), East St. John (QB/DB Darion Monroe) and Hahnville (DB Jerquinick Sandolph).

7) Jamal Sam - RB/LB - Westgate - Started as a freshman for a 5A semifinalist team. Westgate upset No. 1 seeded (and previously unbeaten) Dutchtown on the road in the quarterfinals. Sams (6-2, 210) finished sixth in the state in the 200 meters (22.06) this spring. Scored a pivotal touchdown in the Tigers' 14-7 win over Archbishop Shaw. Westgate opens the season against Breaux Bridge (LSU commits Lamar Louis, Travin Dural and Kavahra Holmes). The following week, the Tigers have a date with John Curtis Christian in the Superdome. The Curtis defense will load up the box vs. Westgate's Wing-T. The Patriots have a front seven that includes three-star DT Marcel Andry, DE Torrey Bell (Mississippi State commit) and Duke Riley (No. 9 ranked '13 prospect in Louisiana).

8) Laurence Jones - ATH - Neville - 6-foot-2, 200-pounder who intercepted three passes and recorded 15 tackles for the 4A Tigers. Also had three receptions for 64 yards, including a 42-yard gain vs. Marshall, Texas. One of Jones' picks came in Neville's 20-19 loss to Ruston. Teammates with '13 ATH John Diarse, who is the No. 3 ranked junior in the state. Will play in front of tons of college scouts this year, as Neville plays Ruston (Kentrell Brice, Cyril Noland), Woodlawn-BR (Torshiro Davis), Ouachita (Quentin Wheeler, Jamarcus Marshall, Jarrett Triplett), Airline (John Thomas) and Bastrop (Denzel Devall, Kyron Thompson).

9) Jeremy Jackson - RB - West St. John - Racked up between 700-and-800 yards rushing in 2010, including 123 yards and two touchdowns vs. Class 5A West Jefferson. Teammates with LSU commit Ronnie Feist. Listed as an eighth grader last year, but he plans to make up a year in the classroom before it's all said and done. Named to the All-Parish squad last season. He'll go head-to-head with White Castle stud RB Tyre Bracken in district competition. Last year, White Castle beat the Rams twice (12-0 in the regular season and 12-6 in the playoffs) en route to the Class A state championship.

10) Leondre James - WR - Donaldsonville - Caught 24 passes for 337 yards and 3 TDs in 2010. Also rushed for 126 yards and a couple more scores on 26 carries. Leading returning receiver for the Tigers, who move up from Class 2A to 3A this year. Will likely be QB Devon Breaux's favorite target. Breaux is committed to Tulane as an athlete. Season-high of 72 yards receiving (on 4 catches) in victory over Capitol. Hauled in two scoring strikes in that game.

11) Chris Lewis - ATH - Lakeside - Rumored to be the fastest freshman in the country. Reportedly clocked a 10.4 in his district track meet. Good friends with fellow track/football star Jeryl Brazil (No. 5 ranked player in the '13 class). Plays for a rural Class 2A school located in Sibley, Louisiana. His team takes a step up in non-district play early in the season vs. 4A Parkway (Bossier City).

re: Louisiana top 2013 prospects

Thanks a bunch BigBull!

Hoping to land a bunch of those kids, especially the first two!

It is early for the 2014 kids, I get it, I am just selfish when it comes to LSU getting the top LA kids. I like to see us get on them early, stay on them, then close the deal on signing day.

This guy is a physical specimen. If he plays the way he looks, he's going to be a good one.

re: Louisiana top 2013 prospects

Fournette and Quinn have already had seasons that would get them offers as seniors, and in Fournette's case landed him an LSU offer already. Both lose good supporting casts. Fournette should still get his yards, I am interested to see if Smith and Quinn still get theirs.

It will be fun to watch these other guys contribute more as sophomores, I look forward to watching them develop! I have always felt that we as a state produce enough talent to contend year in and year out. It is good to know this trend continues!

re: Louisiana top 2013 prospects

I may be missing something. Destrahan was very un-impressive. Hard to see Jefferson that high.

But then again I saw J.J. play twice in 2 years at Desty and didn't see him as a D1 qb.
