Its almost as bad as a hurricane with the unsubstantiated rumors, media sensationalism, and morons thinking all of EBR is going to be underwater tomorrow.

Its terrible in Mississippi also. If people would relay facts instead of bullshite this whole thing would be slightly more tolerable.

You know why they do that? Its simple. Because LA is filled with stupid MF'ers who won't leave unless you threaten tehm with death! Even then they don't go! Example: Katrina

so many are too dumb to get out of harms way, so now the govmnt and media need to scare the hell out of people to make them heed the warnings.

Its mostly the people that hte govmnt has to keep care of full time anyway. They want to file a lawsuit or get paid or something...but they just dont leave for safety reasons...it's bizzare at best.

All true. But there is a reality we all might want to get our head around. There was a realistic threat the the Mississippi would change course here. So if you were going to build a new billion dollar refinery, would you put it on the Mississippi River?

Not the point. The smart money will go where man does not have to fight this battle.

everywhere has its problems caused by nature.... and a 100 year flood is remarkably stable in my opinion.

Cause they make that back in a few years!

But you HAVE to put it on the river! Dude, refineries bring in crude ON BOATS! THey have to be on the largest river to accept the largest boats.

Location is key. Houston, Lake CHarles, BR, New Orleans etc..

Do you understand that crude is offloaded out in the gulf?

Yeah, I was aware of that. The point is that Houston has huge advantages, as does Beaumont. You are closer to the Gulf, you have a far more business friendly government, and your channel is not ever going to shift.

Look, I am all for industry on the River. Just keep in mind that money flies to safety, and the Mississippi just upped the risk factor for industries situated on it.

True, if you are talking about LOOP. But refined products are barged out, aren't they?
