Yesterday at the parades in Uptown N.O., we were standing next to a couple of guys from Michigan. Thet had wife and kids with them, they had come to N.O. for Mardi Gras for family vacation. One of the guys had on a UM baseball cap, and a couple of the kids had on UM shirts.

Talking to these guys about College football, they both said that they loved LSU football and Les Miles. They said that they watch LSU football every chance they get. They liked Miles because of all the trick plays and gutsy calls that he makes and they agree that in general, LSU has a lot better atheletes than Michigan. They both would have been OK with Miles back at Michigan, but that were a lot of Michigan fans who did not want Miles as coach. In their opinion a lot of Michigan people think Miles is somewhat of a buffoon, with the way he talks in interviews, some of his playcalling, etc.

Good. I'll keep my winning football coach and they can have a smart interviewer.

Appreciate the post. I had a distinct feeling, reading Michigan message boards, that they were on board for the most part with a Miles hire.

Steve1, these guys liked Miles. They think he is great coach. They said that Michigan was still being effected by Coach Bo's philosophy. Recruit huge lineman, run the ball every play. Those tactics worked back then, but there is an institutional memory of those glory days, and a lot of fans can't let go of those memories.

Not saying that these guys were experts on Michigan football, but it was nice to talk to a couple of average fans and get their opinions.
I couldn't believe how much these guys loved LSU football.

So, the "buffoon" part was just your reading between the lines, your own take, or sour grapes caused by Miles telling their school to take a hike not once but twice???

Perhaps they have forgotten, but Miles does his interviews pretty much exactly like his mentor Bo Schembechler did, with simple, slow one-sentence replies.
