re: Miles turned down more money?

It is a matter of semantics in whether an offer was made. In all likelihood a formal offer was not made in the manner that the words "I accept" would have resulted in a contract immediately. That rarely happens in complex deals like coaching contracts in one or two face to face meetings. Usually there is an agreement in principle and the details of the final offer and contract are worked out over a period of time. But there really is no offer and acceptance forming a contract when the initial discussions and agreement in principal occur.
So when Brandon says no offer was made, he is correct, but it sounds like there was no offer because Miles said "no" to the preliminary approaches. I think would have been better for all concerned if he had simply said that he had discussions with Miles and that they mutually decided not to pursue the matter further. Instead he acted like a jerk and treated the most prominent Michigan alum in college coaching with disrespect.

So CLM is not only taking less money now but he is also agreeing to take less money if he is fired later down the road.
Did anyone think he could get anything more with all the cuts at LSU? (I know they're not athletic but the PR factor, still).
Also, did the article mention built-in incentives? Overall Miles got what he wanted. Money was never an issue. If he can't make it on 3.5 mil, 4 won't help.

there is more to it. Miles loves Michigan, but loves LSU even more

We were all so pod when he got hired in jan 05 that we forgot Okie St offered him more money than LSU to retain him.
He didn't ask for more money or fudge on his agreement with LSU.
If you like integrity, you will love Miles.

Believe what you want, but he WAS offered the Michigan job despite what idiot michigan fans say.
Whether there was a formal offer or not, I'm pretty sure everyone understood UM would have loved to have had him. You have to be a real dumbass to believe otherwise. Besides, they didn't fly down to BR for a sightseeing trip and a quick consultation.
CLM understands very well that he has a great situation here and an extra million to bolt to a questionable one up north just isn't enough. It appears he just wants to be sure that if he does have a bad year (like Mack Brown did this year) he won't be promptly run out on a rail.

He got offered a lot. Anyone who thinks otherwise isn't capable of figuring out the obvious.

Miles for President!

Miles moved he and his wife's parents down here. His kids grew up here. He is guaranteed another 18 million even if he doesn't win another game. He looked at these family factors and the state of both football programs and made an obvious decision. It was the best choice for him and his family as I said before. I don't think it was anything more than that. I do believe he has become attached to LSU and that made the choice easier, but wasn't the deciding factor. It was a slam dunk. Best choice for him. He is a family man before an LSU man. That's how it should be.

Someone in Miles situation is not worried about money.
Actually many people who make a lot more money than Les are concerned about the next dollar. That is their way of keeping score.
Les keeps score by kicking asses, winning championships, collecting hardware, and making his adversaries like it.
Les Miles! We are very fortunate to have him.
I look forward to several more years of LSU having a "damn strong football team."
Les Miles is The Man.

However, when you consider the tax rate in MI, it's not such a pay cut.

Why is reality labeled 'hate'? If people like Miles that is fine, but this idea that is some pillar integrity is getting old. On more than one occasion, he has acted quickly to toss others under the bus when the heat got turned up.
It is amazing how short memories are on the rant.

"...threw others "Under the Bus" ..."
Excuse me ? ... When exactly did he "throw someone under the bus"
- which as we all know - is terminology for improperly placing blame where it does not deserve to be ...
CLM has been more than fair to his coaches and players. To a fault,
many - or most - would say ...

He's a man of his word. He told us 3 years ago that Michigan would always be in his heart, but he'd never be the coach there; he already had a job.
In today's world, it's hard to find a high-character man like we have here at LSU. I couldn't be happier that he- once again- put his critics under the knife, and gave us another 11-win season when nearly everyone said "NO WAY".
Thanks, Coach. I'm glad you're here.
