He just wants the same treatment as Urban Meyer, Saban, Carroll, Stoops and all the other top coaches that occasionally fall on a rough season. Yes it makes me nervous, but its really not an unreasonable quest.

And for the reading impaired I am not saying Miles is as great a coach as those names, but he has enjoyed similar success.

That's what he may have meant. But this really is essentially a mediocrity clause in the contract. I don't care if you're writing a contract for Miles or for a janitor, I am fundamentally opposed to that kind of entitlement mentality.

Nah, we should never have 8 win seasons.

He isn't saying 8 wins consistently is acceptable, he is saying that in the midst of some NC runs if we have the occasional 8 win season he shouldn't be fired. I think this is ok as long as we are very good in most seasons. Down years are going to happen just ask Florida.

Are some of you guys serious? We have had several 11 wins seasons with Miles. Give the guy a little slack.

Guys, the "eight win season" thing is just the writer's interpretation. Relax. He's just saying "if I make this commitment to you, you've got to be committed to me."

Its a perfectly reasonable request. And yes, believe it or not 8 win seasons happen to the best coaches out there. I'm happy to have a coach who turns it around and pulls out a 10 win season afterwards - unlike some who can't get the ship going again (ahem UGA)

All of you people clearly just started watching LSU football in the last 10 years.

An "occasional" 8 win season happens. You lose talent, you have rebuilding years, unexpected things happen(Perriloux). I understand how having 8 wins every season isn't what we want but putting a team together that has the ability to win a national title every 3-4 years is a damn good accomplishment.

Exactly. It got so bad on this board that I had to stop reading The Rant for a while. It's embarrassing how LSU fans eat their own.

They're still here. Just can't comment because they know they'll get blasted for wanting an 11 win coach fired.

Max and his chronies are here and there on this board. (Max is banned right now though. I have no idea why.)

Les had the team 6-0 this season, and people still wanted him fired. It was the subject of national news articles. I can't blame him for feeling this way...

Seconded. The way he was treated this year is the reason I wouldn't be surprised if he left for a worse situation at Michigan. Part of our fanbase just has unrealistic expectations.

He was never "going to be fired after eight wins..." two seasons ago.

Agreed. And if people don't think it gives prospective coaches (even great candidates) pause, they're nuts.

Whats funny is most thought LSU would go 8-4, 9-3
When they come out 6-0, the expectations go through the roof; and a large chunk of the fan base begin to have delusions of grandeur

The key to not having fans freak out about an 8 win season is to not follow it with a 9-4 (5-3 in SEC) season.

There is no room for slack. There are now two other coaches in the sec west with natl titles.

Don't like it, but understand why he's asking. The "6-0" bit was the subject of national news every week. Remember the "lsu is trying to get over another win" bit on espn and multiple commentaries about never seeing anything like this.... Fact is, with talent and big dollars come big expectations. Not happy with that then take it back to big blue and win 8 games a year.....

Bingo - the letter left a CRAW in his belly.

Miles is correct. You do not fire a coach that went 8 -4. LSU fans are getting like Cowboy fans of the past. Look what happened at that place.
