LSU is a fun school. A&M is a not so fun cult.

Please don't ever compare yourself to either of these schools especiallys VMI....i can promise you the fact that you have the same federal designation is where the simlarities end.

I realized LSU was a former military school but I had no idea it had such a decorated military past.

-In Operation "Desert Storm" there were more soldiers represented by LSU & ATM than any other schools (LSU was a close 2nd to ATM).

-As a military school, LSU originally had a US, then CS, now US affiliation. ATM was never associated with the Confederacy since it was founded more than 10 years after the CSA was dissolved.

hey, whodattigahbait: i find "aggiegirl" very polite and respectful. (much like most every person associated with Texas A&M.) i am sure you have read this entire thread, and there have been some smartassery directed at her. her responses have risen above that, and she has complimented our campus, fans, traditions, etc. i don't post much, but your post to her chapped my arse a bit. of course, Texas A&M isn't exactly like the citadel or Virginia Military Institute, but she is correct in her comparisons of the federal designate. your tone is appalling, and i think you owe her an apology.

LSU was also an A&M

It's been quite a while since I picked up my diploma. I think that LSU still IS an agricultural and mechanical college. Is that no longer the case or did you just choose the wrong verb?

I lived in Virginia for quite a while, and people very acquainted with VMI said A&M's ROTC program is essentially the same.

VMI, A&M, and the Citadel even have an exchange program where students of each school spend a semester at the other two.

quote:

Two Citadel cadets and six Virginia Military Institute cadets are getting a
taste of Aggie hospitality this semester, and eight members of the Texas A&M
Corps of Cadets are spending the fall at those schools.

The Citadel and VMI are participating with A&M in a semester-long Corps
Exchange Program to help improve integration of women at the two other schools.

Monica Strye, Corps recruiting sergeant and a junior animal science major,
said the cadets from the Citadel and VMI are at A&M to observe how men and
women in the Corps react to each other so they can improve integration at their
schools.

She said two A&M cadets went to the Citadel and six A&M cadets went to VMI to
observe situations between men and women and to tell them how situations are
handled at A&M.

Citadel and VMI cadets attend classes and participate in all their outfit's
activities with A&M cadets. Also, the A&M cadets at the Citadel and VMI will
attend classes at those schools and participate in activities.

John Getgood, a senior VMI cadet and a member of Squadron 16, said he and the
other VMI cadets have had a smooth transition from a campus of 1,250 students
to a campus of 42,000 students.

"We really like the campus," Getgood said. "One of the guys said he'd like to
transfer here (A&M)."

Ken Carll, a junior from the Citadel and a member of Company P-2, said he
thinks the program helps cadets see how integration at A&M works instead of
just hearing about it.

"It's one thing to tell someone how to do something, but it's another thing to
actually go there and see the other side," Carll said.

Carll said the Citadel has two female cadets. Getgood said VMI has 31 females.

Strye said Texas A&M was asked by the Citadel and VMI to participate in the
exchange program because A&M has had women in the Corps longer than any other
service academy or cadet program.

"It's not perfect, but it's the longest," Strye said

Women joined the Corps in 1975. Fifty-one women were in the first all-female
ROTC unit, Company W-1.

Maj. Becky Ray, special assistant to the Commandant, said the male officers
who are supportive of the integration program and the female cadets deserve
credit for the success of A&M's integration program.

"We don't pretend to have all the answers," Ray said. "We're trying to share
what we've learned to keep them (cadets at Citadel and VMI) from making the
same mistakes we have."

A&M, VMI, and The Citadel Exchange Cadets (article)

What makes you think they are so different? Aren't they all Army, Navy and Air Force ROTC programs? I will concede VMI and the Citadel are much more similar to the academies but I'm not so sure any any comparison is unwarranted.

You shouldn't be. He was a great man, and without him the Civil War could have dragged on longer than it did, and costed us a lot more in lives.

It was Sherman who donated the cannons that are in front of the Military Science building. Those are Ames Napoleon cannons, and they were two of the cannons used to fire on Fort Sumter.

They arent so different from each other.

But the big difference from them and the USMA are that Cadets at the USMA must commission after graduation. Where at aTm, Vtech, etc they can have 4 years of MS electives. Most regular state schools, you have to contract with ROTC starting with your Junior year (MS3).

A friend of mine has an exchange student from Germany..however I dare say that the US and Germany are not really the same.

Sorry....Citadel and VMI are very different.

If you go to either your a cadet unless your at the night school is one difference.

A&M you can go and not be a cadet.....Citadel and VMI were formed for very specific purpose that was destroyed in 1996.

Most major schools have ROTC programs wherein if you graduate you get commissioned so that is void...in any comparison...that would be like comparing LSU to the Citadel or VMI because both have ROTC programs.

Also, I doubt A&M has a hell week starting prior to your freshman year. I know VMI does cause I have a friend (Major) who is a Recruiting Officer there.

Just so you know, you dont have to commission at VMI or the Citadel.
