Thanks, Chill Pill!! I listened to that game on the radio when I was a freshman in high school. John Ferguson sure could call a great game. No sidekick to analyze things, just painted a nice picture over the air. Hearing the players' names again made me smile. Those guys were my heroes! On the Sunday night after the games, we'd watch the Charlie Mac show on TV. He'd advertise for Burger King and call tomatoes "dermaters". I still hate Ole Miss - we didn't beat them very often back then.

I was at that game, my second year in law school. I don't recall any LSU fans leaving early. You just somehow knew Jones was going to pull the game out.

Here's what I wrote about that game in a post a few days ago:

quote:

November 4, 1972. LSU 17 Ole Miss 16
In law school at the time – the famous one second game (you are now entering Louisiana, set your clocks back one second). Great 4th quarter drive by Bert Jones. Often overlooked is that LSU was heavily favored in this game. The Tigers entered the game 6-0 ranked #6 against the 4-3 unranked Rebels. Should have easily won by two touchdowns.

Thanks. I was a senior at NLU in Monroe and headed back to my apartment across campus when the OLIN dorm exploded with noise -- I knew the only thing it could be was TIGERS WON! Thanks again. Great memory of a great game.

I remember listening to this game on the radio with my parents. I also remember asking whether LSU would be allowed to kick the extra point since time expired on the TD. That was a nerve-wracking game for a 1st grader.

Yea that must be wrong, only current LSU fans leave early. Back then people would stay and chant LSU until the stadium lights went off the next day.

I don't recall this at all. I remember thinking that only a handful of LSU fans had left. Funny thing about memories.

I don't remember fans leaving either. The Stadium was still packed.

I lived in Memphis at that time and the only tickets available were Ole Miss. I went with an Ole Mill grad. and sat in the end zone underneath the metal floor that the fans above stomped all thru the game. It was a great game, but I felt like I had been in a 50 gal. drum while others pounded it with hammers. GEAUX TIGAHS!

Thanks for sharing! I was there. That was back in the days when Ole Miss really was our biggest rival. No matter who we played, when the game was over, we would walk down the ramps screaming Go TO Hell Ole Miss Go To Hell! I don't remember anyone leaving that game early. Ferguson was great! One of the truly great games in the series between LSU and Ole Miss

To this day, I still say that Tiger Stadium was much louder back then. Let the debate begin.

Better still was going to the game the following year in Jackson with my dad. All of the Ole Miss fans were swearing up and down that they would revenge that game and the Tigers slapped them around to the tune of 51 - 14.

Don't remember seeing many leave that game--took us over two hours to get out, and back to a friend's home in BR.

We were in the southeast endzone on the goal line below the webel band and students with a clear view of Brad scoring. We were actually waiting for the stands to clear some at the end of the game until the losers above, in their true tradition, begin to throw whiskey bottles hitting one lady in the head.

I remember my mom and I listening to the game in the kitchen on the radio. My mother was back at LSU at the time to finish her degree.
quote:

Am I the only one who expected "One Second Blues" to start playing after the PAT call?

Mom bought me the '45 (that's a record for you youngsters) and I still have it. I think I still remember every word, too.

Is this the game where you cheated with the amount of time on the scoreboard?

great link thanks.

I was 12 years old and my dad helped run a concessions stand in South U-10. Me and my two buddies watched the start of the drive from U-10. We headed down tward the field after the first few plays watching each play from the overhang on the ramps. (There were no bleacher there back then) We made it to the sideline for the final play only to find so many people on the sidelines we could not see the field. We started to head back up when my buddy said, Just watch the crowd we will know if they score.. A great night in deed.

I got Billy Cannon's autograph earlier that night as well. He sat on the front row of U-10 back then.

I don't remember many leaving that night either. I think they were all on the sidelines.

Geaux To Hell Ole Miss !!!

Thanks a million.

What incredible memories. Wasn't at the game but my household was listening to John Ferguson and exploded in celebration!
