How bout we have a standout female in college first.
Before that happens, we gotta have one in high school.

Well this chick is getting offers to play at the collegiate level at least... although the article says that it is unclear whether or not the recruiters knew she was in fact a girl. She set the record for a female kicker, with a 43 yarder. It was estimated the kick would have been good from 48. On the year, she is:

quote:

Gaither hit 27-of-29 extra points and was a perfect 4-for-4 on field goals, all from beyond 30 yards.

And her coach had this to say:

quote:

While her kicks from distance are garnering most of the attention, Gaither's accuracy is often touted as her greatest asset. Her coach said that she routinely hits 8-of-10 attempts from beyond 40 yards in practice, and he said he's confident enough in her ability to trust her with an attempt of 50 yards or farther. T

I think this is the third article I have seen this year. Change is coming... it may be a long time, but the NFL will have a female player one day, imo. It is just waiting for the right mix of butch or beauty, activism, and someone trying to do it.

I don't think you are going to see any women booming 50 yard fgs. which virtually every team in the NFL has a man that can do now.

Didn't Mia Hamm kick a few 50 yarders at a Chiefs practice years ago?

Yeah, that is what I was most surprised about the article. Was the coach said:

quote:

Her coach said that she routinely hits 8-of-10 attempts from beyond 40 yards in practice, and he said he's confident enough in her ability to trust her with an attempt of 50 yards or farther.

Granted that is practice, but apparently she is capable of making them. So it is not like it is out of the realm of possibility. And like I have said the whole thread, the major obstacle, imo, is the fact that the overwhelming majority girls are not even trying to play football. I'm sure there are girls capable of kicking a ball that far, but none are trying to, much less trying to do so accurately.

Best shot right here. If you find a chick that literally doesn't miss under 50 yards they could/would have a career. Over 50 yards start to be considered lower chance anyways.
