Ok, let me clarify. He's taking the same types of supplements, not the same exact ones. And I didn't start them upon his recommendation. I referred to him because of his remarkable results, that's it.

im just speaking from personal experience. I was that big once after HS and playing football (295), and started working with a personal trainer and a nutritionist. And never once did they recommend any supplement at the weight i was at. it was counter productive to my overall goal, and frankly a waste of money. So yea, roll your eyes all you want. I actually had professional help, not another fatass in the office taking the same thing.
Yeah I was talking about your tone more than anything.
Honestly I don't disagree with you regarding supplements. I don't personally believe suplementing is necessary if you get the needed protein in your diet. I would think a change in diet to accomodoate your strength training goals is more important, not to mention probably more cost effective.
Yet, I'm not going to say anything about those who choose to do so. If it's working for them then that's fine. As far as being "fat swole", that would seem to be all a matter of diet which does take supplements into account.

Protein shakes won't make you 'fat swole'. That happens when you eat like shite and lift heavy. I am eating well, working out for fat loss, and my supplements are just that - supplements. I don't take my supplements and think they're magic pills or magic powders.. I know that 95% of the losses come from hard work and dedication to my diet and exercise.

I wasn't really directing that at you Hulk. More Lester Earl's comments. I know you've kept your diet up which is exactly why I take issue with Lester's comments. He is speaking as if you and your co-worker are using supplements as some magic pill that allows you to see big gains, lose weight, and still eat whatever you want when that isn't what either of you seem to be doing.
At the same time though I do think some people who are less educated about their body think that they can eat protein bars and take supplements and protein shakes and simply because they are working out hard these things are negated and are good for them when that isn't really true. So these people can see a lot of gains stregth wise but are still fat swole. You can be fat swole without supplements too. I was the living definition of that in high school. I was strong but still fat so you couldn't see any of it. Diet is the most important thing.

Lets agree to disagree. As long as what you are doing is working, then keep doing it. When you need a change, then do so.
I'll ask this question here first. Which of these two stores do you think is better and why? Varsity Sports or Fleet Feet.

Just lending my opinion. I don't really care what he does. Just seems like an over abundance of protein for someone already on a high protein diet.
At his size a strong cardio workout along with high reps, he should be dropping weight AS WELL as losing body fat and inches. I mean if should really be melting off if he is working out 3-4 times a week

body fat has gone down and clothes fit better, only thing I can think of is im putting on muscle. Which should be happening. And trust me, the protein intake from a diet is not enough protein to put on muscle. Guys that are looking to gain weight are supposed to get 1g of protein for every pound they weigh. Obviously I'm not looking to gain weight so I don't get nearly that much protein, and I only take 1 protein shake a day.. that's only 40g protein.

I can see both sides of the argument. I won't talk about it further, besides at this point I'm nothing but a Monday morning quarterback when it comes to strength training. I think I've decided to just go and get an olympic weight set and a power rack, those would be the only things i would use at the gym so I'd save a lot of money over the long run.
Sorry for disturbing the peace.

Heres my opinion on supplements, take it for whats its worth, probably nothing lol.
I'm taking 1.M.R. as a pre workout booster. Simply gives you a shot of energy before my hour and half work outs that i have been doing. It also gives me a boost during the 5K's i have been running. I'm also taking optimum nutritions Whey protein as a post workout shake.
My workouts consist of anywhere from a 1-3 mile run and then an isolated muscle weight lifting 5 days a week. I run a 5K almost every weekend but no weight training on the weekends. I have also started a 5AM spin class every M-W-F.
I have lost 50 lbs since January 10, I'm doing the protein and weight lifting because I do not want to risk looking "skinny fat." I am currently 249 and i'm 6'3, tighter and leaner than i have been since graduating High School in '04. I went from a 44 waist to a 38 about to be 36. I am much stronger now and my stamina is out the roof.
Conclusion: everyone is different, find what works and stick to it.

True, I'm old school when it comes to my cardio/ variable resistance workout, 5 days a week, 30 min sessions and I am drenched when I'm done.I like sweating and working hard, and when I reach my target i can probably cut it back to 3-4 days a week.We all know weight loss comes from diet and creating a calorie deficit. Being consistent with workouts you will see the results. Getting your heart rate up to a whats defined as a moderate level for your height/weight/age and maintaing that heart rate for 20-30 min you will lose weight. Throw in some HIIT or circuits, but you have to be consistent. My resting heart rate has gone from 72 bpm to 64 bpm. Not bad considering 7 mos ago I was 50 lbs overweight. I'm in my 40's so cardio is most importantly for my heart/overall conditioning. Patience is a must, and when you've been at it a while its natural to go through periods of frustration.

Good stuff.
Hulk should look into a similar plan. Seems like his regimen needs to be ramped up and he's afraid to leave his comfort zone. With the diet in place, the pounds will fall off and he will tighten up with some intensified training.
No offense to hulk, he's done a great job, but there's a reason the scale hasn't moved in awhile. The blames always something else, but maybe he should point the finger at himself? There's more to the story.. Bad diet, drinking, lack of movement.. Something.
I've been following this thread since the first day.. I'm rooting for hulk and want him to succeed

I don't blame anyone or anything but myself for a lack of loss. I don't know where you're getting that. I know if I don't lose size or pounds, it's because I'm not doing something right. Right now I've lost size and bf% but no weight.. very likely to have gained muscle with the training I'm doing. My workouts are very intense, they just aren't very lengthy workouts. Workouts don't have to be lengthy to be "intense" or burn a lot of calories. And I just started a new training program that incorporates plyometrics in some lifting routines and even 2 designated plyo (cardio) days. , and have only been at it for a week and 2 days.. so give it time and the scale may start to move.
Not everyone loses as easily as each other, just like some people don't gain very easily. It will come off because I know I'm doing everything right. Eating well, monitoring my calories, hitting the gym at least 4 times a week. Well, when I got sick I didn't go for a week, but besides that I've gotten into a routine at the gym. I'm not perfect, I don't do everything perfect, but I do have some results even if they aren't showing on the scale just yet.
Today's workout (X/X means I did these with no break between, then break between sets):
DB press/lat pull down - 12 x 3
60sec break
DB shoulder press/DB shrugs - 12 x 2
60sec break
DB bicep curls/DB overhead tricep ext - 12 x 3
60 sec break
DB lunges/DB stiff-leg deadlift - 12 x 2
3 position calf raises, 30 of each position. Normal raise, toe-out raises, toe-in raises
20 bicycle crunches/30sec mountain climbers - 4 sets
Then I did 2 minute intervals of jogging/walking on the treadmill for 1 mile.
Tomorrow is a full cardio/plyo day. 5 exercises, 20 sec each is 1 set, do 10 sets:
Body squats
Push ups
Prone Cobra
Jumping Jacks
Mountain Climbers
After that workout I'm usually too exhausted to do anything extra. Maybe those workouts don't sound very intense to you, but to someone my weight it's really tough. Combine that with the fact that I've only been working out since mid-jan and I steadily increase the weights I work out with every 3 weeks or so, and I'd say my stuff is intense. Sometimes in the middle of lifting I have to stop and get on the treadmill to let my heart rate come down because I get dizzy and tunnel vision. I push myself to the very limit. Sorry if I come across as rude but I can take criticism to my diets and personal image and all, but the intensity of my workout is not something I like to be questioned because I give it my all.

That's an inspiring story dude
. No I'm no athlete, I've been fat all of my life. In a computer gamer nerd. I have strong legs and I carry the weight well but I've never been very athletic. Hoping to change that.

Went up a tiny bit. I'm not surprised, yesterday was maybe the worst day I've had yet. Things at work just did not work in my favor.

It's all about debate and discussion. To be honest everyone's thoughts, concerns, and opinions have gotten me thinking. I think I need to go back to what was working before. Ketosis. I worked out yesterday without my pre-workout supplement and I did just fine, in fact I felt better because my heart rate wasn't as high. The pre-workout I use tends to make my heart rate higher and I think that has been the cause of some of my issues of having to stop to catch my heart rate or getting dizzy. I'm going to stop taking the pre-workout, as well. I'm going to keep taking protein as long as I work out. I think if I do go back to a ketogenic diet, I will need lglutamine tablets to replenish the glycogen stores in my muscles so they can recover. Between protein and lglutamine I should be able to lift weights without worrying about muscle loss because of ketosis.
These are all just thoughts. I'm not 100% sure about everything yet, but our discussion definitely has me thinking about everything I'm doing and deciding what to change to help me progress.

Your workout routine looks awesome, and as long as your getting adequate protein you shouldn't get muscle loss. I've been pretty restrictive at times with caloric intake and have worried about muscle loss.If I can get the fat off without to much muscle loss then I feel regaining the muscle shouldn't be a problem. I see my weight loss/workout routine to be in phases and right now I'm trying to shred, then I'll switch to a more traditional muscle building/lifting workout.
