Vegans and other "special" diets.

My wife is in the art crowd, need I say more, lots of people who being "special" is part of their genetic makeup. I cook a lot for crowds and parties, mostly for her groups and I am used to "Rathufson and Kloe are coming, be sure to have vegan stuff". No problem, heck in the summer when the vegetables are great, we will have a couple of meatless dinners a week.
But was does irk the shite out of me is being questioned by Kloe about the preparation of the ratatouille. "Am I sure no broths or meat products were used, or were the cutting board and knives different than the ones used to make the lamb moussaka".
Secondly, when you have to go to Kloe and Rathafson's for a party, do they have meat dishes for non-vegans?? Noooooooooooo. So we have to treat these self-absorbed jerks special but they are off the hook.
You want to have fun? Have vegans and Atkins at the same gathering, you can go nuts making everyone happy. So my rule this year is I cook what I want and I don't answer question concerning food prep. And I don't go to any gathering unless it is centered around people with numbers on their backs.
Thanks, I vented.

i hear ya.
i live in L.A. and work in the entertainment field. Bunch of lemmings, but they fail to see the irony.

you make a reasonable point.
i have a couple of friends with eating preferences--one doesn't eat beef or pork (but will eat chicken/turkey/fish) and another is a vegetarian. BUT, neither of them would ever ask me to make special arrangements. I do because they are my friends but they don't expect it.
next time i go to a vegetarian's house for dinner, I'm telling them i don't eat vegetables... ...we'll see if there is a steak waiting just for me....

I think I would suggest to them that they bring their own as I am not to be trusted.

I would have told them that the vegetables were marinated in cow's blood and that you strangled a calf to death right before you put out the food.

frick that. If they don't trust your preperation/food, then they can go hungry. If they're so worried about eating a certain way, tell them to bring their own shite.

jeeeeeez
It's one thing to be a vegan. It is entirely another thing to be a jackass. Kloe needs to learn some manners.

thats incredibly rude. Id have a veggie plate for them to snack on, but i would not go out of my way to cater to their finicky lifestyle.
