Why did South Carolina leave the ACC? Ga. Tech left the SEC because they thought that they would be better off as an independent like Notre Dame was. They thought that they could be the Notre Dame of the South. It apparently didn't work out like they thought it would being an independent. Ga. Tech and Alabama were once fierce rivals.
