Its amazing to me that people choose their life insurance company by cheapest premium. They do not read the fine print in the policy, such as a company not paying out in first 2 years. They do not look at company strength or track record. I am making this based on a previous post about term insurance. Does anyone here research more than premium price? Such as Mutual or Stock company, company assests or even something as simple as the company requiring medical exams?

Northwestern Mutual Life...great guys, I have a few policies with them. Can't beat the ratings, local guys representing a BIG company. Ask for Johnny.

That is a great company. They are a mutual company. It is a great point that people need to research more than just the premium. Although premium makes a difference, you do get what you pay for. Mutual insurance companies are rock solid, always have been, always will be. Even Dave Ramsey has come out and made that point. Amazing that he would ever acknowledge how important that is, but he did. It was impossible for him not to in lieu of the recent financial crisis.

This is a very relevant topic, and much required. Too often, the scramble for cheap life insurance diverts us from other very important factors – how stable the company is and how good its ratings are. Look for ratings of A or higher, and make sure the company has been rated by a reputed rating agency such as Standard and Poor, Fitch, and Weiss. Actually when you check for free life insurance quotes online, a reputed website will also be able to provide current ratings of the life insurance companies associated with your quotes.

Like you pointed out, the fine print needs to be read carefully. Also explore the free riders on your policy. They may help you get a better deal.

I will be getting a quote from Met-life in about two weeks after my medical exam. I am applying for a 30yr term $750k in coverage. I am expecting around $100/month they said $70/month over the phone pending medical exam so I know the final rate will be a bit higher. They all seem to low ball you to get you to do an exam.

Taken from web site.

This would be axed within a minute if posted on the OT or F & D Board.

Are you implying that my very inexpensive term-life policy with "Bill and Joe's Majorly Awesome Insurance Company" might not have been my best choice?

You might be correct.....

If I'm paying 600 a year in premiums to a Mutual Company as opposed to 500 a year in premiums to a Fraternal company what's the advantage to the Mutual company?

Just pick a company that's been around a while and check their rating.

See what I did there guys guess which kind I work for

Dave Ramsey suggests using Zander.com. You could use quickquote.com as well. Both good options

My advice is to check rates online and find out if anybody locally can compete at that rate. Life Insurance is very commission heavy and an easy way to help out a buddy, so long as the rates are comparable.

People push "service" but its life insurance, you die you get a check...
