The first scotch I tried was johnny walker and I enjoyed it. Since then I've tried others but I was happy with starting on that. Black Label

Famous grouse or Dewars. Good and relatively cheap.

I'm liking Glenfiddich 12 year. Nice and smooth. I'm a big fan of the maccallan 12 as well though.

If you have been drinking bourbon or whiskey, Johnny Walker Black is a really good first crossover (blended scotch). The single malt scotches like Glenlivit or Glenfiddich take a little more getting used to, IMO
ETA-I have gotten to that point, and have recently enjoyed Macallan 18 yo.

what part of "beginner's scotch" did you assfricks not grasp?
it's his first pull of scotch
dude, go get some Dewar's, pour it over ice, and pour some water in it
go from there - skip all the other Mac's and the like for now - you'll find your way

Blend:
Grant's
Chivas

Single Malt:
Glenlivet 12 year
The Balvenie Doublewood 12 year
*Depending on budget, many more.

Macallan 12 or 18. Older you go, the more expensive. Very smooth.

Start with a blended scotch...dewars is a good one...mix with soda and a squeese of lemon....after a while you will forget about lemon....after a while you will be out of soda and will learn to drink it with water....from there you will progress to less water...then you are ready for the single malts....just a wee dram neat with a splash of water to open the scotch up....from there you will decide if you just want to be a drunk or attend those meetings and become an alcoholic.

this may sound silly... i was a bourbon drinker... my friend kept trying to get me on Scotch. i refused.... (like a noob)
finally he convinced me that he was so sure i would love scotch, he decided to buy me glasses of JWB (he was piss drunk himself and felt like showing off how much money he could blow at the Chimes)
So after 2 or three glasses of Johnny walker blue, i became a scotch fan!
i was lucky to catch a good buddy piss drunk enough to buy me glasses of this, most people arent. But if you have some $$$ to blow and want to learn to love scotch, try JWB. very smooth

Try and stick to the smoother lighter versions when starting out. Most of the Islay malts take a little getting used to. Definitely add a little splash of water. Hard to go wrong with the Macallans. Other smooth light single malts are Auchentoshan, Dalwhinnie, and 10 year old Glenmorangie are nice if you can find them.
