beautiful, just beautiful. we need chavis to stay if we are to successfully rebuild our coaching staff. his defenses are good enough to win it all and that has been proven. we need to improve our offense.

Chavis is a solid DC, not great. Hes a great LB coach though...
I'm in the middle with this. We have a vastly improved defense and the biggest stat of all, 12th in scoring defense. But we have stuff we need to improve on...especially getting off the field faster. What I find amazing is how good of a scoring defense we have when we can even accumulate sacks in a game. This is our biggest weakness on defense. I think we'll see a better defense next year under his system.
You know what you get with Chavis...hes just a safe guy. I don't think we'll ever have a amazing defense under him but they'll always have us in position to win games. If offense catches up, we'll have a great team next year.
With all that being said, Chavis wouldn't hurt my feelings leaving. But then again, I'm not sure I trust Miles hiring a new assistant. Hes done good with some guys and really screwed up on some of his other assistant decisions.

Yep. I'd be concerned if I were a GA fan. Continuously not being able to hire their choice of DCs is not a good sign.

UGA is a dying program. They will continue to move in the wrong direction as long as Richt is at the helm. Too much talent is annually squandered by that man.
Who in their right mind would want to work under that?

yeah, stay at LSU for one more year, or go to Georgia for one year? Both head coaches could be gone next year and he could be looking for a new gig.

Back to the Rant for you. Miles ain't going anywhere. Richt is on the hottest of seats, but even he will be back in 2011.

It's difficult to find an experienced DC from a good program. It's a lateral move for all of them. The only lure is money and usually the school they are at will match or better the money to stay (which is what LSU did).
The search process is to find one with experience first and if not find an up and comer or NFL DC.
The DC postion at UGA is one of the tops but it is still a lateral move for current big program DC's.
The only reason LSU got Chavis was because he was fired at the time ya'll were looking. In my opinion he runs the same type of soft zone conservative D willie martinez did. I want a more aggresive D.
Richt will get the right man for the job

To me, results are more important...but that's just me.

Yeah, passive defenses usually produce great results.

Richt still has Todd Grantham in the mix.

the "hot seat" has gotten ridiculous. this guy won 10 games a yr until 09. teams like BAMA will experience this too like USC is this year.
Nobody ever mentions that Saban has benefited from the 3 or 4 best teams that BAMA plays every year being down the past 2 years. Think about it, who challenges them every year? LSU, Auburn, Tennessee, maybe Arkansas? How good have these teams been the past 2 years?
BAMA will be 8-4 and Florida will be a Cotton Bowl team again soon. Be happy with what you have.

I agree that it is ridiculous that Richt is on the hot seat but the SEC has won about 6 titles in the last 15 years or so and he has not even been part of the conversation (which is something that Auburn can claim).
I agree that seasons are cyclical but somehow I don't see Florida having a big down cycle - It is as though something clicked for them with their AD/Coach / School direction in 1990 and since then they go down only for a year or two ( and their down years are down only in comparison to their good years).
It helps that they are in fertile grounds with more money (and the quality of academia doesn't hurt either )

The flip side of this is, bama has yet to play it's best ball.
bama has 3 number 1 recruiting classes in a row

I was shocked at the lack of talent on the field this year for UGA. They have had nothing but top 10 recruiting classes but severely lacked play makers on both sides of the ball (yes, I know they have AJ Green but he is the lone bright spot).
UGA loses their best players from a shitty defense and Richt can't get a DC. Also, UGA will start a new QB for the second year in a row.

It's this type of simple thinking that makes your opinion worthless.

Oh really? What about in 07 when we had the exact same overall and conference record as LSU? I think that kinda put us in the "conversation"...it was just a tough break that we lost the tie-breaker to Tennessee because we wet the bed in Knoxville and they pulled the game against Kentucky the week before the SECCG out of their arse
and the '02 team lost a 7 point game to Florida for their only loss only to have Miami/tOSU both go undefeated. One loss usually gets you in the MNC (since we all know that LSU didnt have an undefeated season in either of their championship years)
and, fwiw, Richt has the 4th highest winning percentage in the country only behind Meyer, Carrol, and Stoops...he's a model of consistency(with the obvious exception to this year) and the administration at Georgia would be fools to think that firing Richt would spring the program to the top....Richt will get us there
