No. This game is the only game remaining on LSU's schedule that they can lose, and still control their SEC Championship destiny.

How do fans not get this?

Because the world doesn't revolve solely around getting to the SEC championship game.

I like our matchup with UF more than I do against Bama, and the UF game is at home to boot.

Come back at the end of the season when we are going to the Capital One Bowl if not lower instead of the Sugar Bowl and tell me how this game did not matter. And this holds true if we win out or not. It gives a safety net if we lose to UF in the SECCG.

How do fans not get this?

Tell that to our last two National Championship teams.

Arkansas has our number. Auburn will not be easy. Bama is bama and Ole Miss will have a lot at stake with us.

I see us beating Florida but we can easily lose 3 games after that. It's a brutal year.

You sure about that??? The last three national champs had to win that game to get into the national championship game. Getting to the SEC championship game is a prerequisite to playing in the national championship game. I do believe that playing in the national championship game is the goal of every D1 school so your point is about as useful dick flavored lollypop.

Thank you for solidifying my point.
Arkansas, Auburn, Bama, Ole Miss = Must win.
Florida = Not a must win.

Compared to the rest of our games, this is less of a must-win as far as getting to the national championship. But... after the Alabama game last year, our team's confidence got shot and we nearly dropped the last three games of the season. As shown by some of our close games, this team seems to have a lot more resolve than the team last year, but I wonder how they would respond to losing such a high-profile game.

LSU goes into each year with 2 goals:

1) Win the SEC Championship
2) If the above is achieved, and the National Championship game is the result, win that one.

You can't have #2 without #1. Ask Mark Richt.

LSU CAN achieve #1 even if they lose Saturday. That is a FACT. No one is saying the game does not matter. We are sayin it is not a "must" win.

That game WOULD be a must win game. The regular season game is not. The only must win games are the ones against SEC West teams.

This statement is accurate now that they are 2-0 against the East (Vandy, UGA). If they would have one loss, then there would be no room for error. Florida is the last East opponent until Atlanta.

I get it and we are on the same page.

What fan this year realistically had National Championship hopes before all the teams in front of us somehow managed to lose? If we managed to win in Atlanta, I really won't mind any outcome after that.

That said, Florida would be a huge emotional high if we win and a minimal emotional low if we lose (close), but the next few games are much more important.

So you really do believe the world revolves around the SEC champ.

In any case, I submit that this is a must win for LSU if only to reclaim the respect/"swagger"/confidence lost last year. That played a huge role in how bad the season turned out. I called the wheels coming off if we lost to Bama right after UGA, and sure enough...

OUR world revolves around the SEC Championship. I don't care what bowl we wind up in if we can manage to go 10-2 (6-2).
