Just Run the Damm Play!!

One of the color comentators I heard over the weekend, (I think it was Bob Davie), said what I have been feeling all along about LSU's offense.
To paraphrase: A team breaks the huddle, runs to the line of scrimmage then turns to the sideline and waits, and waits, for a signal THEN hurries up and rushes a play in order not to get a delay of game then is unsucessful. Whereas isn't it better to just go to the line and run the play.
Only Peyton Manning is able to audible every play and there is only one Peyton. By standing around, you give the defense more time to adjust to you not you to them.

I, too, concur... I am sure there must be some very reasonable answer to why we do this, but I can almost feel the team's anxiety/tension rise each play... Break the huddle with about 14-17 seconds left on the play clock; settle into position; ooops, pop up and everyone look over at the sidelines; oh oh, clock now at 7 seconds as JJ goes up and down the line to spread "the word"; shite, 3 seconds....hike it, hike it.... Once again, I am sure there is a rationale behind this approach...

1. no huddle
2. everyone else is doing it

I'm with you. Call the play, run the play, and occasionally call an audible.

I just don't understand why more teams don't hurry up and snap the ball before the defense gets set. I know you can't do this every time because they want to read the defense but when they are out of position like we were last year just run a QB draw or quick pass to the WR.
BTW it's the same way in the NFL they think they have to wait of the defense ever snap.

Seems like a lot more delay of game calls. For LSU and others.

3. Coaches seem to think they're not doing their job unless they overthink everything.
I'd much rather see a team that executes a few things very very well. That has confidence to line up and beat you. On the other hand, that starts at the line. And it's clear that they have no confidence in the line, and rightfully so.
