re: What about playing the other 11 SEC teams each year?

Chicken,
I've always been against the divisional set up. I like the way the Pac 10 does it. They play everyone and have a meaningful non-conference game, not like the Big 12 or SEC with cupcakes.
My first complaint is the SECW sucks SECE. They rule and we have to follow. The way they set up the inter-division play the SECW always draws the SECE team first and then we have to play the rubber game AT THEIR PLACE every time.
ie UGA here/then there, UT here/then there
Usually every year you have only three teams in each division that are truly contenders so the "conference" race is over way too early. If we played everyone it would be awesome. Let the best team win.

because some programs are better than other programs. seriously, why do we play florida every year and someone else gets to play vandy every year.
It was set up this way because Bama-Tenn and Auburn-Ga. wanted to keep their annual games.
The proper way to have done this was to go the way the Big XII did and go to a rotating schedule whereby you played your division teams and rotated a home and home with 2 opposing division teams every year.
If Bama-Tenn and Auburn-Ga. wanted to continue their series every year, then they could have scheduled them as out-of-conference games and everybody would be happy and the schedules would be fairer.
To play every team in the conference would make the SECCG pointless. It would be just like it used to be before divisional play so there would be no need for it.

I'm with you on this, that makes a much more legimate champion. And eliminating the "dog" games (USL, NLU etc.) would be worth it as well. When a team hasen't scored a TD in 75+ years, it's time to schedule someone else.
Is the SEC basketball schedule a home and home with all conference teams? I know it's not in the Big 12.

I would be all for it if we only had 10 teams in our conference, but having 12, I would not like it at all.

In a scenario like this, there would be some scheduling issues...as half the teams would play 6 home SEC games, and the other half would only get 5 home SEC games...
Doesn't this kill it? In years with 5 home SEC games, your OOC game has to be home just to get to 6.

Dog the Pac-10 all you want, but I think it is cool how every team plays each other in football.
With room left for 3 OOC games. Not just one.

there really would be no point in having an SECCG then...other then to possibly boot an SEC team from the NCG
there's no point in it now if we play a team like Georgia or Florida twice. While many complain about us have a SECCG and other conferences that don't, every year we've won it, it helped us get to the NCG. I would say in 03 and 07 we wouldn't have played for a national title if we didn't have a SECCG.

I agree. Not fair Ole Piss gets Vandy every year and MS State Kentucky.
Here in Big XII country there was talk a couple of years ago about a realignment if Baylor was booted out and if the Big 11 (10) added a twelfth member. Talk was that if Mizzou went to Big 11, the BIG XII would ask Arky and TCU. There would be some matchup issues with that in the present XII division set ups (UT-OU primarily). There are ways it could work but it's pointless to even discuss it since it's so far fetched. Baylor should've never been in the Big XII anyway.
The SECCG is all about the benjamins.

No doubt. Look what it's gotten each of those schools.

Kiss your national title aspirations out the window. It would have to be uniform across the country, then you could have three loss teams capable of reaching title game.
Conferences like the WAC, Mountain West would not like this at all!

Interesting idea chicken. It would either make the SEC unbeatable or completely destroy it.

The idea would only make sense if there was a playoff system that only admitted the conference champions...and this idea will never happen because it is too radical. I just think it is a shame that we play some cupcakes more than we play teams in our own conference.

I disagree with playing all 11 teams each year, but it would be nice to have it rotate a bit so everyone plays teams in the opposite division in equal amounts.
The reason I disagree with this is because I think we need more OOC games to assert the SEC's superiority (or inferiority) over other conferences. If the SEC has a down year or an up year overall, how would we (or more importantly, the pollsters) know? We need to compete with other conferences a bit more than just one OOC game a year.
This.
Even now, people from other conferences are claiming media bias for the perception that the SEC is the best. The argument is always that we never play quality OOC teams.
If we played 11 SEC teams in one season, there is no way in hell an AD is going to want to schedule a quality team like VT, Cal, OKlahoma st. ect ect. The focus on the strenght of the conference (which we now enjoy) could be lost nationally with pollsters with fewer teams being able to survive that gauntlet with less than 2 losses..........fewer teams remaining ranked at the end of the year.

Will never happen because NCAA is now a pro Corporation rather than a college game for students and alums.

Yeah, not fair to them. LSU playing Florida every year is a HUGE benefit for both programs.
And Chicken, this idea is terrible. We would cease to be real members of the NCAA. We should just get somebody to crown the SEC Champ the National Champ and be done with it. No reason to bother with playoffs or bowl games since we would have effectively withdrawn our participation with the other conferences.

The problem I see with it would be that more times than not the SEC Champion would be 10-3 and be beat up for the bowl season.

exactly...kinda like the flat tax idea. it makes too much sense.
What I would like to see is a truely fair system. Where everyone rotated on and off the current 8 game schedule. No permanent opponents everyone plays each other on a rotation.

Wouldn't make much sense then either. Congratulations on surviving one of the most brutal regular seasons in CFB history and winning the SEC. Now go beat Texas, USC, and Ohio State in consecutive weeks to win the NC.
