I don't like how they're doing the byes...and I also thought 8 would have been best.

There is no doubt it's devalued the regular season. A 2 loss SEC team is almost guaranteed a spot...in the past you'd need chaos to get in with 2 losses. So big games are still big...just not as important unless you've dropped a couple early already.

The best teams win when it matters. If a team goes undefeated regular season then loses in the playoffs then they weren’t the best team because they couldn’t get it done when it counted.

I have said this same thing, but the more I think about it, the 12 team playoff may add value to the regular season.

Think about this scenario:

2 loss Ole Miss vs 5 loss MSU in the Egg Bowl. The Egg Bowl is always great, but no one outside the southeast is watching and in previous years they would only be playing for state pride and perhaps a slightly better bowl slot. Now Ole Miss is playing for a playoff spot and MSU is playing spoiler. Value added.

Rivalry weekend is going to be great. Before, you had maybe 6 teams with a legit chance to make the playoffs, with a couple of those spots pretty much decided and a couple of others who just needed to beat inferior opponents. Now you are opening that up to most of the top 20, and let's face it...#10 or 12 is much more likely to lose toward the end than #2 or 4.
