Idiots in California think they just voted to increase costs for employers and that it wouldn't have any negative effects on them.
We didn't vote for this, unlike prop 47, which freed the "non-violent criminals" from jail. This minimum wage BS is brought to us by our legislature.

Any business that locates in California, the land of fruits & nuts, deserves to fail. With all the leftist policies and Democrats in control, one should know better.

So this was an anticipatory closing due to a wage they had never paid? That's rich.
Tboy are you the same fella doing the budgeting for the state of Cali, saying there was 100 billion surplus two years ago and now a 73 billion deficit? Thats what happens when you dont know what "budget" means.

minimum wage was $9.00 an hour. Today, it’s set at $16 an hour, rising to $20 an hour for fast food workers.
Have to raise the price of food if you are paying them more. This isn't rocket surgery. They are no better off than before getting the raise. You can't make many understand this.

They definitely should’ve stayed open and gone bankrupt instead.

That's just really fricking dumb. We have a business. We aren't failing but the business climate the dems have created here is challenging for sure. Your anger should be focused on them.

The article cited other wage increases that affected the business, and so their mathematics told them with another 4.50 raise it was better to close. You need to stop making stupid comments sir.

There were only 2 possible results from this new law. Either the company would raise prices to cover the expenses or lay off staff. Neither is good for the employees but dumbass politicians never seem to understand it.
They think that companies will take the losses on the chin instead of passing the new costs along. These same political imbeciles spend make believe money and are surprised at higher prices, inflation and interest rates.

California has seen a consistent and significant increase in its minimum wage over the past decade. In 2014, the state’s minimum wage was $9.00 an hour. Today, it’s set at $16 an hour, rising to $20 an hour for fast food workers.

Looks like over the last 10 years they have been losing money and the latest hike was going to be more than they could handle.

Dems don't think that. They know what the true costs of their policy will be, but will do it for the optics, and then scream about bad companies.
They just want the political gains and then pass the negatives upon others.

This statement is false. They had already moved from $9 - $16. If they were struggling to break even or losing money at $16, they knew they couldn't survive at $20 and closed the doors to stop the bleeding.
And, it doesn’t stop at minimum wage. When it went from $9 to $16, those make $16 at the time had to move up as well because it wouldn’t be fair for them to make the same as a new employee.
Now, the same thing would happen again. Those from $16 go to $20, those at $20 want $24, those at $30 want $34 and so on and so forth
It’s easy for those that down own businesses and especially those in government that produce nothing to say “just take less profit”… but running a less profitable business has so many ramifications in the long term. Profit isn’t “banked” for greed, it’s banked for long term strategic planning and it needs to be predictable to be able to deploy. If you frick around with it, shutting down is a lot easier than treading water or operating in unknown territory

Progressives believe the Min Wage is a floor, but to poor people its a ceiling.
The higher the min wage, the more black market activity you will have in this country.

Except I didn't vote for the people that gave us this crap. By your measure all of us here voted in Biden.
As L.A. has said we're simply outnumbered. Hell, even SDV somewhat acknowledged that we're outnumbered out here and he never does that. The state has problems that are driven by SoCal and the Bay Area. Those areas are a mess but they're so heavily populated that their representatives run roughshod over the rest of the state. They are the problem but there isn't any fixing it... unless a few million of you want to move out here. Which I'm perfectly fine with. God knows we can use the voters.
