Disagree. I mean, there is a huge difference in pay in college...but there is in the NFL, too, and yet somehow Mahomes, Brady, Allen and Stafford all manage to do well with much lower paid players on their teams. If college players want more money then they will do what NFL players do. Work harder and put up numbers.

2 of the top 5 paid players were in the NFL playoffs.

Personally? I would take the money and invest it. If he wants to put it into a car that depreciates then the loss will be on him. However, if he should do very well this season and get drafted high in the NFL draft, the money he spent on that car will look like peanuts.
