I understand and agree with y'all about the bizarre choices made to wrap this thing up, but my biggest gripe is this was billed as cosmic horror. They leaned into it hard all season and then pulled the rug for a girl power statement. I mean how many times did we see the spiral? People got it tattooed on their bodies and were borderline obsessed with it. The only mention it gets is a shoe horned flat circle callback? Based on how much they played it up you would think clark was totally off the deep end and he's totally normal.

I came here for cosmic horror and you served us a really flimsy murder she wrote ending.

Probably the most disgusting this about this whole deal is leaving Navarro's ending up to "interpretation" and managing to glorify her potentially suiciding out. When suicide rates among Native women are some of the highest in the country.

For all of the shitty writing throughout, that might be the worst IMO.

This is why I am predicting the "trauma" angle.

People are pushing this talking point about this season fixing the toxic masculinity of season 1, but this season is so much more misogynistic than season 1. Thinking about this is why I'm imagining that whenever this is scrutinized, they flip it to how the females are all weak and flawed because of past trauma (from masculine/patriarchal sources).

That's why I posted that meme and commentary about suicide. shite was unbelievable.

well...that was something.

i really gave this season a chance. i didnt even hate season 2 as much as most people do.

i just cant really find anything redeemable about this S4.
the acting was bad
the story was bad
the direction was bad
the "symbolism" was bad
nothing made sense
so many conveniences made to just force the pieces together

going into this season thinking it would be enjoyable to probably in my top 5 list of most awful shows ive sit through. honestly, i most sat through the last 2 episode because my dog got use to sleeping in my lap on sunday night for the last few weeks and i didnt want to disappoint him.

Don't know anything about the director, but seeing all the comments from the internet about her, I'm guessing shes just like the Star Wars director that got shitcanned? An activist over art?

Thank heavens the writers could only draw this nonsense out for 6 episodes instead of 12.

And honestly, I'd have no problem with her learning that through her vision with her Mom when she walked out the first time. And it having some kind of meaning/symbolism in the storyline. They had at least built up some story to that in her background.

But then going out there AGAIN. And Danvers being like "Hey if you need to go do that, just uh "come back"".

Just frustrating. The bones were all there at the beginning to have a decent story but they wanted to cram a bunch of shite into the last two episodes without any real build-up or reasonable explanations for, well, anything.

Remember, the writer and director said she had this original story when HBO approached her wanted it to be a TD season

She threw the spiral and other shite just for fan service. Her own words

If this is true that kinda sucks for the writer/director.

She said it in an interview. She didn’t want to do it at first because she didn’t see how it could tie to a true detective story.

Can someone remind me why Jodie Fosters boss and the other lady wanted to put the case to rest and said it was an avalanche?

Why did they not want them to investigate?

Also, is Navarro dead? What was she walking out in the snow supposed to be?

The mine owner bc their numbers were being fudged by Tsalal so they could keep mining and destroying the environment.

The boss, likely because he was on the take.

Just watched season finale. Holy frick. I called the ham fisted out of place time is a flat circle call back. That was stupid but the female Eskimo swat team thing is probably the dumbest thing I’ve ever seen in a TV show. Holy frick that was bad. The finale took this show from disappointing to down right insulting. What a waste of time.

Correct, it’s like they wanted to throw us curve balls to leave what happened in doubt but didn’t care whether it made any sense. Just awful writing.

All of the Eskimo gods and spook stuff was just misdirection to hit you with a matriarchy revenge story in the end. My wife was pissed to no end.

It's l'appel du vide, or call of the void, and most of us are sane enough to not listen to it, but this woman somehow gets a pass because of toxic masculinity or oppression or some bullshite.

This is my first and last season of true detective. I can't believe I was baited into such a dumb finale.
