Fwiw, you can hit the upvote button after and it will change it from a downvote going forward.
CFC, that’s so impressive and probably my biggest goal to get more consistent. Even in my best round (68) I was +5 thru 4, before playing the rest of the holes -8 and ripping off a back nine 29 which will probably be the only time in my life I’ll do that

Jesus these threads make me jealous.
I thought I played a TON of golf when I played like 25-30 per year.
Now I think I’ve played 15-20 rounds combined total since like 2020.
Right there with you. I wish I had enough time outside of work and family to play the volume some posters here do. If I play twice a month during the summer, I would define that a lot at my current stage in life. When I was in my teens though late 20s, that number was 4-5/week. Depressing

It’s just way too long of a commitment for those with busy lives and family responsibilities.
For those who don’t have a private club membership it’s easily a 5 and a half hour to 6 hour round and not to mention the commute to and from.
Basically it’s pretty much an entire day and it gets to be way too long and expensive.

Yep, all of that. Even if I was still at a club, stepping out for 3-4 hours several times a week with 2 kids under the age of 3 would not be an ideal situation in my marriage
I also don’t have a job where I would realistically have that much daylight time in a week for a hobby

This is my exact situation. I'm hopeful that my two kids will get into golf and make a private club a worthy investment so I can bring them to the course
Then they obviously become the next Tiger Woods

When my kids were little, I had a “social” membership that included 16 rounds(or 32 nines).
I never got through 16 rounds in a given year. Never practiced.
I enjoyed spending time with the kids, but neither of them got into golf so I did not get back into until they were almost grown.
Golf requires time, money, and health.
Rare to have all three.

I was a member at a club when the kids were pre-school age and was still able to play a fair amount. Once they started playing soccer, baseball, softball, football, basketball, and volleyball that all changed. Dropped the membership since soccer, club volleyball, and baseball were year round. Once they got into high school I was able to play some.
Long story short, you may have to pause for a while but it gets better. Enjoy those kids while you can, it goes fast.

Retired Golf Professional, didn’t play any golf for over ten years, just really getting back into the game this past Year.

64 this year and playing tomorrow for 65. Played fewer rounds this year but had my best year. Shot my best round ever then beat it within the same month. (74 then 73 on par 72); shot under par on a 9 hole stretch for first time.
Just doing that gave me so much confidence that I can score and make multiple birdies a round.
Highest index this yr 9.3 and lowest 6.3 (new best). Current is 7.7.

No problem. Done the same myself.
The 67 was just me and a buddy playing a round on a good course having a good time, just one of those rounds where everything was going in for a while. Putt a mile long with 2 breaks and downhill at the end somehow runs into the flag and falls, chip in.
Once in a while the ball just wants to go in. Though I will say my (shameless plug for my Rhapsodo MLM launch monitor) yardages have gotten more reliable so I’m getting more chances.

64 with one to go on Saturday.
I am in the pre pause stage with my kids right now. Got one that is 2 and another on the way due in March so I won't get to play as much in 2024 as I did this year. Once the wife gets back on her feet and I can bring the older one with me to the course I will get to play more. But I am looking forward to that pause when they start playing sports/doing other activities because of the memories I have with my dad. Knowing I'll get to make those memories with my sons makes me very excited! And while I am waiting on that time to get here I get to play almost every round with my dad now. So knowing that I am hopeful when my sons get to be around my age that we do the same!
I work as a firefighter so this aids greatly in the amount of golf I get to play, especially during the week. While I do have a second job, I am able to find the time to make it to the course just about once every week. Golf is very therapeutic for me because of the stresses of the job I work. It allows me to kind of reset mentally.

2022 rounds 60
2023 rounds 90 with 2 more to go. A lot of other rounds where I didn’t GHIN it, so probably close to 100.
High 105
Low 73
Avg 86.2
Low Index 6.1
Current index 8.1

2.
At one point in my life, I was averaging more than 18 holes a day. Now, I'm averaging 18 holes every 6 months.
My issue is that I have kids that aren't old enough to really play golf or be self sufficient on their own at the house. Getting away for 5-6 hours on a Saturday is hard.

That’s very consistent. Even when I was a plus handicap I’d have a day nothing went right and I’d throw out an 80.
My 2022 had those for sure. I had a nice little 86-84 2 day trip to squire creek in 2022.
For 2023 I was able to commit more to an at least once a week long, consistent, range session. I would go through every club in my bag and get confident strikes. It was something I used to do playing in college.
It made me have almost zero first tee ‘let’s see wtf my swing is doing today’ moments.

My brother is a member of River Club here in Atlanta area. That course eats my lunch. The greens will typically be rolling at a 12 or 13 and I’m already a crappy putter, so I lose a bunch of strokes in the green. That course average for me is probably a 95. My 73 came in our member/member at my course and it was just one of those days where everything was clicking, including making some bomb putts. On average, I’m shooting low to mid 80s at my course. Once i go to a different course that I don’t know as well, I’ll shoot in the upper 80s.
