I was just thinking about this and I feel like some stuff from the 80s sounds outdated and doesn’t hold up.
There are bands that spanned that time and I tend to prefer their stuff before and or after the 80s.
Depeche Mode is a good example of a band that started in the 80s but I currently like their later stuff. I was listening to their new album and went back and listened to music for the masses, just wasn’t feeling it. Prefer Memento Mori.

I think A-Ha's "Take on me" may be the epitome of 80s pop. Such a perferct song. That is all.
Im the same. Might not be the "best" song but when I think 80s and what song makes me think of it, it nails it. Perfect catchy hook, memorable music video. Everything about it screams 80s.
Other random 80s songs that I think of are
Don't you forget about me
Cars- You Might Think
Everybody Wants to Rule the World

The best thing about the ‘80s was that no one used that word to describe a song

The best - Save It For Later - The English Beat
Mirror in the Bathroom is their best song
And speaking of Dave Wakeling, Tenderness by General Public is up there as a solid 80s pop song

I mean if you're gonna troll with songs on albums you can easily find at thrift stores for $1.. should've gone with with Angel of the Morning by Juice Newton
