jacklegs poisoning coyotes - yep makes them a federal felon when they get caught.

Had a story relayed recently to me by some ol baw. Said his buddy's club had a coyote problem down in woodville. So they got ahold the temik poison from a farmer. They got some deer carcasses and poisoned them and also dosed up a bunch of hotdog as well and threw everything out in a field. They waited about a week and went to check out how things were going. As they approached they were a bit surprised to not see any buzzards circling area of where the field was. When they actually got to the area they saw why--they were all dead on the ground along with every other critter that eats meat for miles around. Coons possums skunks coyotes rats bobcats dogs....list goes on. They started looking around and realized what they had done and got scared and hauled arse. Nothing else come of it as far as I know. This was some years ago.

Googled temik poison and there are a few stories of people getting into some legal shite attempting to kill varmints with it. Not sold anymore.

I know some jackasses that used this to poison critters eating corn at their deer feeders. They quit when the started noticing dead crows, buzzards, etc. that were eating the dead coons and continuing the cycle of death.

Surprised this stuff hasn't been banned.

Man... I'm hooked on this now. So he and that new female are a pair now. She was just in the nest moving things around. It's so cool

That was pretty sad. The male never saw her body because he sits on the eggs and calls to her, increasingly anxious. Sucks to see a beautiful creature die like that. No way that was natural.

“started noticing dead crows, buzzards, etc. that were eating the dead coons”

I’ve trapped quite a few coons with the Dog Proof traps, shoot the coons in the head
and dump them in a pile.I’ve never had anything eat them.I was thinking maybe buzzards don’t eat them, they won’t touch a dead dog or coyote.

They flock to a deer carcass or dead hog, armadillos seem to be their favorite.

Also, I read on the internet that eagles won't eat carrion unless it's small enough for them to pick up and fly away with.

I can tell you this is absolutely false. I’ve personally nearly hit two eating roadkill and have seen them feeding on deer carcasses.

A guy I went to high school with had a stuffed bald eagle in his double wide. The cops found it when they busted him for having a field of pot plants growing on his land. Always wondered who the taxidermist who stuffed it was.

Camped on the Homer, AK spit for part of a week. Professional photographers would wake up before dark, and put fish out on the beach. When the sun came up the eagles would come up and get them. The eagles were around 20 yards from out tent. We didn't know about it the 1st night we stayed there, so we slept thru it, but we woke up and watched them two of the other three mornings. If you go to Alaska in the summer try to make a reservation there. They have bars that stay open 24 hours. People are walking from the campsites to the bars all night long. One night we didn't go the bar until nearly midnight. We had chartered a boat to fish for halibut, but we didn't get to go out because of rough water.

We were camped in the little campground circled in red. The water on tha east side is the Cook Inlet. You'll see seals and whales out there. There are mountains with glaziers across the Cook Inlet. There is a little island with lots of trees and birds at that southern tip. That's where some of the eagles and puffins come from. Too bad this trip was before we had smart phones. I took a little $150 HP camera

Kachemak Bay is on the West side of the spit.

The male keeps returning and sitting on the eggs. Pretty damn sad.

I wonder what will finally make him give up?

Yeah, I just had it up for a while and see he is all alone. Sadly, those eggs will not make it.

We went to Alaska in 2004. We spent one night in Homer. Supposed to go halibut fishing but captain called, early and said I have a 35 ‘ boat and 10’ seas. We said it almost at the same time” We ain’t going fishing today. “
We stayed at a little motel on the beach and that morning there were probably 20-30 eagles feeding on fish on the beach. I’m pretty sure if they eat dead fish , they eat carrion too.

No antidote either. I know a dumbass that used this for killing coons but also killed his two labs in the process.

I think that new female will make a push for him or something to do something. She is ready to breed.
