Ole Miss is pushing all their chips in with a manageable schedule. I don't blame them, but I also don't think LSU should get into a bidding war and overpay for players just because Ole Miss wants them.

Richardson is a good player, but he's not elite.

I don't understand this line of thinking.

He would significantly improve what is a stark area of weakness in the defense and happens to be from Bossier. And it's not like there are a lot of other options out there for LSU.

I know it's a position of need but what if he's asking too much. Not making excuses but are there other corners that might be better in the portal? I could be wrong but I'm certain Kelly is willing to throw a bag if he has to.

Ole miss has a ton of rich donors and more importantly they are much better organized to raise funds within the program and direct then to the right places. We need to step the frick up.

Yeah you can, and have to, get another corner. But we can't be in the business of bargain hunting like we did last year when we got Chesnut instead of bidding on Cypress, for example. We should have learned our lesson there.

Sure isn't.
So he poaches Golding from Saban and is now going all in on getting D talent.

I'm pretty sure Kelly said he prefers multi-year players over a 1 year guy. Idk I'm slightly torn because I know we need to pony up on at least 1 corner. We can bargain hunt after.

I don't think the secondary was as bad as some people think. The liabilities IMO were Burns and Sage and of course Chestnut and Harris ending up on the side of milk cartons (for reasons we can guess). But Alexander played solid the 2ND HALF of the season once he learned to turn around and look for the ball as it came in. Sam I thought was pretty solid all season. Toviano showed me a lot of potential and Stamps may get there also. Don't know about Hughes since he didn't play as much but Jordan Allen proved he could at least hit.

IMO, the BIGGEST liability on defense was almost 0 pass rush. How many 3rd and longs did LSU allow to convert...wasn't a secondary issue...it was 0 pass rush and inability to stop crossing routes. Some bad mouth transfers but Swinson and Jefferson were the best 2 LSU DL...Maason Smith was a shadow of his former self and apparently Mekhi Mingo tried to play most of the year with "an upper body injury." Since this is a recruiting board, I like who LSU is bringing in the secondary and eventually Reliford might very well turn into a Danielle Hunter type. Washington I really have little hope for but maybe I'm wrong.

Kelly is sitting on his hands doing nothing with the worst defense in school history. Zero staff changes and the best portal talent is getting scooped up because Kelly and LSU don't want to play the game. Looking forward to restocking our secondary from Nicholls and Southeastern though

This. LSU fans want to have an opinion on what we need to do without doing it. I dont donate to it, but I am not complaining about every portal player that chooses elsewhere.

Louisiana is broke. When the big pocket donors start seeing no or little results from their investments in players we will have to rely on the everyday fan contributing. We will fall further behind I would imagine. But on a good note, you will have the NCAA step in and make some changes to the portal that will stop some of this. What is happeing now is just not sustainable for any program.

Realistically, Chestnut wasn't a bad pickup, but his lack of height/size are what hurt him. If you watched him against FSU to start the season, he was in position most of the time and had some good instincts. He simply wasn't able to compete with larger/taller WRs.

If he comes back and gets put in the spot Sage occupied at to cover the slot, I think he will be a really good player for us.

Harris is also an amazing talent, and his behavioral issues weren't going to magically disappear by coming to LSU. It was going to take time to get him straight and if he returns, LSU will have talent there.

Add in the young guys getting experience, it will be better by default next year. You still need to get a portal talent there perhaps to compete, but outside of a shutdown, elite corner, it isn't worth overpaying or getting into bidding wars. Those aren't the kind of guys that win championships.

Safeties and LBers were just as bad if not worse than the CBs this year. Safety is being addressed and LBer will hopefully get better with experience. We simply misused Perkins and took away his best skill, but he played coverage well, which opens up a lot of options next year with a competent DC unlike House.

Also, LSU had younger guys this season whereas last year they had seasoned vets in Garner, JBC, Brooks and Foucha. They didn't really need coaching. These other players do and our awful DB coaches didn't develop anything.

LBer regressed and that is entirely on House.

DL is explainable with the loss of their position coach, but still should not have been that bad.

Bring in a few new guys and bring in real coaches at each position group and this defense can be very good with not that many more pickups in the portal, especially if some of the DL come back.

Here's what I offer....

~Pass rush skills are non existent, I'd never get to the QB

~I'm slow af, won't read and react quickly to minimize a play

~I'll get torched in coverage

Sounds like I'm a plug and play starter at D-line, linebacker or DB in the Kelly/House system. Put me in coach!
