Went to the golf store & the guy working there talked me into trying out some Mizuno JPX923 irons, even though I told him I wasn't going to buy. It was the first time I'd hit nice clubs & they were great.

I started looking online & prices are in the $1000-1400 range. On Ebay, sellers w/ good feedback & thousands of sales have some sets for $650.

Is markup that high or is there a high chance these cheap ones are Chinese knock offs? I'm probably not going to buy from Ebay because of my uncertainty, but how can one sell them for half the price if they're really Mizunos?

Not as common as YouTube would want you to believe. Also, drivers, fairways, and hybrids are more often faked than irons. Just research the fakes for the JPX923. The badging is usually slightly off on fakes.

Mark up on new clubs is stupid. The set you’re getting in EBay is most likely slightly used. If the seller has a very high rating with more than 1k sales, I wouldn’t worry.

When you say slightly used, do you mean that maybe they were the demos used in the store? Because they're listed as "new" & in plastic.

I did some reading on the subject, but like you reference, if you're looking for it things may seem worse than they are. Did find some stuff about slightly different fonts & color on fakes, but probably would have to inspect them in person because the comparisons I saw were close.

Also in reading, someone wrote that there are also serial numbers on certain clubs that you can verify with Mizuno. Might consider buying them if I can verify the Ebay ones are legit, maybe post-purchase but pre-use. Would assume the Ebay seller would have the original box if legit.

I'm not that good, mid 90s, so my swing needs lots of work. Clubs won't help me right now, but they felt & sounded really nice hitting them in the store.

Under eBay's Buyer Protection, you'd be covered if you purchased them and they ended up being fake. eBay would have your back in returning them and getting your money back. But always check their seller feedback and see what others are saying about them

Give Sub70 a try.
Pricing is great.
Good demo program.
Cost about half of majors prices.

I paid 650 for JPX 921 Forged last year, they retailed for around 1200 at the time.

Can't recommend them enough.
