Great job. Looks fantastic and I really like the winter scheme look.

Couple questions.
What is that mounted on the front, just under the viewing window (whatever they call the slot they looked out of).

Is that a "retirement" clock in the background?

You mean this?

That’s a spare length of track.

It’s actually an anniversary clock.

I have what we call my “model room” upstairs.

These are older pics. Where you see my stash sitting now has a shelf sitting there. The stash now sits to the right of my desk.

Germans made some beautiful ships

They were incredibly durable too. Seydlitz ate 20+ main battery hits plus a torpedo and managed to make it back to port after Jutland.

Had WWI broke out about 10-15 years later than it did, Germany would have had the time to build up its navy to seriously challenge the Royal Navy. I’ve often wondered how Jutland would have turned out were it fought in 1926 or 1931 instead of 1916.

The one in my stash is SMS Markgraf. It was a König class dreadnaught.
Saw the site of where she rests at Scapa Flow in August.

Thanks for posting here.

Thanks. It’s easier and takes less spaces than Panzerkampfwagen.

Typical of the Grands to take a simple word like “tank” and turn it into something far more complex.

A good portion of the Hochseeflotte met their fate there when their crews scuttled their ships rather than allow them to fall into British hands.

I’ve always found it ironic the German navy chose this defiant path only eight months after it mutinied rather than sail out to face the Royal Navy in a last chance gamble to break the British blockade.

Why didn't they use an 88?

The 8.8 would not fit. When the Pzkpfw IV was introduced, the concept of mounting a gun the size of the “88” was never considered.

Still, the 7.5 cm KwK40 L48 was more than capable of taking out either the T-34 or M4 Sherman from distance.

The workhorse of the Wehrmacht.

Tiger and Panthers grabbed headlines, but IVs (and to a lesser degree IIIs) did most of the hard work.

Stupid question: do you paint the pieces and then assemble, or assemble and then paint?

It depends, really. On armor I'll have most of it assembled except for turret and small bits that aren't painted the same as the hull. On aircraft, I'll have it assembled except ordinance, fuel tanks, and landing gear. I'm not a fan of painting first because there could be gaps, etc, that need to be filled - which ruins the paint job.
