The Panzerkampfwagen IV Ausführung H (Panzer IV H) (Sd.Kfz. Index: Sd.Kfz. 161/2) is the eighth variant of the Panzerkampfwagen IV medium tank family. The introduction of the long-barrelled 7.5 cm gun-armed Panzer IV G substantially altered the employment of the Panzer IVs within the German Wehrmacht. In 1942, the long-barrelled 75 mm Kampfwagenkanone (KwK) 40 L/43 tank gun were more than capable of dealing with the majority of tanks on the battlefield. Better armoured Panzer IVs were proposed due to their exceptional performance on the battlefield. This would result in the Panzer IV H variant being introduced. It was essentially the same vehicle as the Panzer IV G variant, with minor changes to simplify the manufacturing process and reduce production time. The Panzer IV H would become the ultimate backbone of the German Wehrmacht Panzer divisions from 1943 until the end of World War II due to its large numbers, firepower, and enhanced armor.

Thanks! I went for a winter white wash scheme on this one. First time I’ve ever done a Panzer in a winter scheme.

Beautiful, how thick was that plating on the sides on the real tanks?

No more than a centimeter or two I think. It was primarily there to defeat shaped charge weapons by causing them to detonate before hitting the vehicle.

Thought there was something different in this paint scheme than usual. You've described it before in detail but briefly, what is your technique to apply the paint. It's very realistic. Just curious.

I enjoy this perspective very cool.

Do you ever put together ships? Looking to put together some of my favorite ships from World of Warships.

Thanks. I’m a bit of an oddball when it comes to models in that I brush paint everything. I use Tamiya acrylics thinned with Tamiya Acrylic Thinner. On this one I first did a base coat of light gray followed by multiple thin layers of flat white. I then used a tiny piece of sponge to daub on dark yellow to simulate where the winter white wash was worn or knocked off. I then use Tamiya Brown panel accent, Tamiya Soot, and Flory Grime Wash to finish off the weathering.

I have, but it’s been years. I generally stick to armor and aircraft from WWII.

ETA: I’m sitting here looking at my stash wondering what to build next and noticed I do have one ship kit to build, a WWI era German Dreadnaught.

Yeah. I’ll eventually get to it. No idea when though. Right now I have 38 aircraft and 51 armored vehicles in front of it, not counting what Santa will bring me for Christmas. Plus I’m waiting on an M1A2 kit to arrive for a commissioned piece I have to build.

If the Germans had just concentrated on PzIV production instead of wasting limited resources on supertank dreams, they would have been better off.

The schürzen skirt armor was to defeat the 14.5-mm anti-tank rifle rounds still in use by the Soviet army. Later in the war the shürzen skirts were changed to a mesh version which was supposed to help defeat hollow charge warheads.

Nice work on the whitewash distemper I'm getting ready to build the German half track with the flakvierling in winter service

Focus on that and the StuG III. The StuG, which didn’t even start out as a tank killer, ended the war as the vehicle with the highest kill tally of any vehicle from any warring nation. Barring another World War, it will hold that record forever.
